"MMP was fantastic. They were easy to work with and did great work. We only had trouble with 2 sub-contractors during this project (Granite & Kitchen design) and they were the sub-contractors that my wife and I selected ourselves outside of MMP... we wish we had used MMP for everything because they did such a good job. I can't recommend them enough. We'd definitely use them again in the future and recommend them to anyone."

"Phil remodeled my whole kitchen. He remolded my bathroom into a new full bath. His workmanship is excellent and his idea and design is good. His price is very reasonable. I will definitely hire him again for my next remodel job."

"I am so happy with AJF. Tony is a perfectionist and takes his time to do a perfect job. He has treated my house as his own and is not satisfied until the work is done right. He is also very responsive to calls/texts which is very refreshing and unusual these days. As well, he always follows through on what he has promised. His pricing is very reasonable and well worth the work that he has provided us. Tony and his crew remind me of how work used to be done - with consideration, quality and a good work ethic. I highly recommend AJF."

"This was a great experience; Gabe and his crew were thoroughly professional, and took great care and pride in their work. Their estimate was in the middle of several that we received, but no one could have done more. They sanded and painted our gutters and downspouts, which no other contractor offered. The work went quickly with a crew of four, and they were extremely careful with our plantings and cleaned up every day before they left. Gabe constantly checked with us to make sure we were happy, which we were. They used the highest quality materials and cut no corners, even though we negotiated on price. The house looks great now -- better than any previous paint job."

"This is the third antique home I've renovated. There isn't much I haven't dealt with trying to fix or improve and I've met and worked with more contractors than I can remember. One of the things I really appreciated about Champ was his patience. Antique homes are very challenging. And not all carpenters are up for the challenge of working with walls and floors that aren't level and plum like new construction is. Champ was able to marry old and new materials together beautifully and without becoming frustrated by the amount of time it took to make things right. He's also someone who can go with the flow. If it turned out I didn't like how my first idea was panning out and I wanted to make changes, Champ was very willing to make those changes happen. Not that I've done this a lot. But sometimes with big renovations things don't look how you thought they might and you want to change things up. I've had contractors get very testy about such things. Champ is very patient and kind and wants the job to be done to the homeowner's satisfaction. Another big problem I've had with contractors is how much time they take to get a job done. So many start a job, say they'll be back the next day then you don't see them for a week. I've had work done that should have only take a few days that dragged out for weeks. I've had jobs that should have taken weeks, drag on for months. Champ doesn't do that. He starts a job and shows up every day until it's completely. Last but certainly not least, Champ is very reasonably priced. Never once did he say to me that this or that took more time or materials so the price has to go up. I've had that happen with others more than once. I would recommend Champ Khoxayo Carpentry to anyone. Pictures below"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

While it is possible to build a wooden carport yourself, especially if you are skilled in carpentry, professional construction is recommended. Professionals ensure structural integrity, proper anchoring, correct alignment, and the use of quality materials for a stable and durable result.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.

Framing a house with steel generally takes less time—around five to eight weeks—than most building materials. The steel components can also be made quickly off-site and manufactured with pre-punched holes for running piping and electrical wiring, which will lessen the prep work and extra labor during construction.

By careful planning and reinforcement to maintain structural integrity.

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.
