""From the initial consultation, LMH Construction was an absolute pleasure to work with. Having had negative experiences with contractors in the past, my husband and I were initially hesitant about our in-law suite project. However, the LMH team immediately put us at ease by listening carefully to our needs, addressing our concerns, and providing a clear, detailed breakdown of the proposed work. Despite our tight deadline to have the space ready for the holidays, LMH Construction exceeded our expectations, delivering a fantastic finished product on time. We are thrilled with the results and highly recommend the team at LMH.""

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

Several signs can indicate a faulty well pump pressure switch. These include your pump running continuously, the pump not turning on at all, or a sudden and complete loss of water. Other symptoms are weak water pressure or an erratic, unpredictable water flow from your fixtures. If you notice these issues, the pressure switch may be the cause. Testing the switch can help diagnose the problem. A faulty switch will likely need to be repaired or replaced. If the issue is more complex, it's best to consult a professional well technician to ensure your water supply is restored correctly.

If you aren’t sure if you have a septic tank or a cesspit, you can check your property records or inspect your drainage system. A septic tank has an outlet pipe that allows liquid to drain into a soakaway or drain field, while a cesspit is a sealed tank that requires frequent emptying. If you notice a manhole cover and no nearby drainage field, it’s likely a cesspit. Signs like slow drainage or a frequent need for pumping can also provide clues. A professional inspection is the easiest way to confirm if your home runs on a septic tank or cesspit.

A septic tank with a 1,500-gallon capacity is good for larger homes with up to 6 or 7 bedrooms. The average home can go with a smaller tank, about 1,000 gallons, which supports a home size of up to 2,500 square feet, or a home with about three bedrooms.

A leaking well pipe is quite different from if the well itself is leaking. To seal a leaking well, pour a cement mixture or bentonite into the space between the well casing and the borehole wall. The heavier cement collects at the bottom to form a solid seal, pushing lighter materials like mud and fluids up toward the surface. Professional well installation companies have the equipment to do this properly.

There are many potential causes of low well water pressure. The most common include sediment buildup, leaking pipes, a failing well pump, or a cracked pressure tank.
