"Jose was a pleasure to work with and took the time to answer all of our questions. Even though he was very busy at the time, he made our project a priority and scheduled our basement abatement as soon as possible. The basement looks so much better now, and we’re incredibly relieved knowing it’s asbestos-free. We highly recommend his services."

"They were very easy to work with! We got a quote for the work almost instantly, and by the end of the night we had the work scheduled for the soonest possible day the state would allow according to the paperwork that needs to be filed to do asbestos removal. They arrived at our house promptly at 7AM, even though they had to drive two hours from the Boston area, and they were done by just before 2! Easy as pie, friendly, canâ t say enough good things about them."

"I hired Anchor Environmental to remove the vibration dampener white cloth tape found on my furnace/air conditioner connector that he suspected was made out of asbestos. I had already scheduled to have a plumber install a new air conditioner, furnace, and ductwork prior to being notified of this potential asbestos. The owner, Eric Oakley, was the best to work with. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and responsive. He provided me with confidence in the remediation process and took extra steps to check the upstairs vents when providing me with a quote for the job (something no other contractor did) to ensure that there was no asbestos in the seams of the ductwork. Eric and his crew were very flexible in first obtaining a permit in time to align his work to occur just before my HVAC contractor was set to start, and then, due to my scheduling issues, was able to reschedule his work at a later date after I needed to postpone the HVAC installation a few weeks later. I also had Eric test various samples of suspected asbestos (popcorn ceiling, etc.) in various rooms (negative thankfully). When work was scheduled I left a key for Eric to begin work early in the morning and by 1 pm that day he was nearing the end of the job, having sealed off the basement with poly and negative air pressure machines. He removed the entire furnace and ductwork and then took a sample of the vibration dampener cloth. A couple days later, he called me back and told me the sample tested 90% of asbestos, telling me I made the right decision to safely remove it. (One HVAC contractor told me he would rip out the suspected asbestos and just throw it out, which is probably illegal). Eric obtained the necessary permit for the work and I met the industrial hygienist at the job site who confirmed that after the asbestos was removed the air tested safely for less than 0.01 asbestos (the standard). Eric's prices were highly reasonable and very fair. After the removal he entertained more of my questions by a phone call to reassure me that everything was done safely and told me to call him if I had any future questions. I would hire him again for any asbestos abatement and testing in the future. Unlike other asbestos abatement companies, Eric is able to both remove and test samples for asbestos. This streamlines the job. I would highly recommend Eric to anyone who thinks they might have asbestos and want something tested or need to have it removed. Eric is the consummate professional and is an expert in his field."

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

It is possible to repair an asbestos roof if the damage is minor. However, it is crucial to follow proper safety procedures and regulations while doing so. It’s always recommended to hire a professional asbestos roofing contractor who specializes in asbestos roof repairs to ensure the work is done safely and correctly.

While there are some sealants designed to be spray-painted over asbestos to encapsulate it, you still want to make sure it’s a specifically designed product for this purpose—not just run-of-the-mill spray paint. Furthermore, be sure you aren’t inadvertently spraying the asbestos fibers around when you take on this project, and as always, be sure to wear the proper protective gear, including a P-100-rated respirator and a disposable body suit, so as not to inadvertently breathe in or spread asbestos fibers.

You can cover asbestos siding with another type of siding, such as vinyl, however, this may not be the best option. Covering the asbestos siding may disturb it, releasing fibers into the air. The covered siding can also be disturbed at a later date, such as by a new homeowner who is unaware of its presence.

If you decide to cover the siding, be sure to work with a professional and follow any local building codes and requirements. It may be the case that removing the asbestos siding is the better option, rather than covering it over.

Asbestos is a carcinogen, meaning it increases the risk of cancer. Inhaling asbestos fibers is linked to several respiratory issues, including asbestosis, or scarring on the lungs, lung cancer, and mesothelioma, another type of cancer. There's also a link between asbestos exposure and an increased risk of colon cancer and other cancers of the digestive system.

Usually, the people most at risk for disease related to asbestos exposure are those who spend a lot of time working around the material without protection. Electricians who work with asbestos wire have a higher risk of developing mesothelioma or lung cancer due to their exposure.

Scraping off asbestos siding is extremely dangerous. When asbestos is inert, it does not pose a risk, but once disturbed, the fibers enter the air that you breathe and can cause irreparable damage. Professionals may scrape it off, but they will have more protective equipment and specialized tools that most homeowners do not have on hand.
