"Getting a walk in tub is expensive no matter who you use. My experience thus far is with installation only and I must say my install went great. It has been over a month and no issues with my tub so I cannot comment on repair process with American Standard."

"It went well. They are being professional in their follow-up as they are trying to have us install an expensive basement drainage/pumping system. We haven't decided yet, as it will be part of our basement gut/rehab project."

"Thank you to Capital Construction for the beautiful work they did on my new wrap around front porch, the craftsmanship is such great quality, the value for money outstanding! I really liked my salesman Jude, he was so genuine and helpful, offering me great ideas to get everything I wanted for my dream porch within my budget. The customer service & follow-ups throughout the project were so professional & friendly, and put my mind at ease. I decide to keep my nest egg in the bank and go for the financing option, because it was so affordable. I feel like I have added to my property both in usability and resale, as this addition has enhanced the whole look of my home, I can not wait to decorate it and enjoy my new outside space. I would highly recommend this company, and am already considering my next home improvement project with them. Looking forward to sunny days on my porch, watching my kids play in the front yard."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

You definitely can over-tighten toilet tank bolts. Unlike some other materials, porcelain can’t bend or flex, so when you over-tighten a screw into it, it could break against the added pressure. Only tighten them as much as needed to keep them in place and firm; any more and you could risk breaking the porcelain.

Your baseboard heater usually should have a bleeder valve, but if not, look for air vents that bleed out the air automatically. If you cannot locate the bleeder valve on your radiator and it doesn’t feel warm even when the heat is turned on, call in a pro to have it inspected.

Yes, you can fill your toilet tank manually to help it flush, or you can pour the water directly into the bowl to flush it manually. This will work for the majority of toilets, as most use a gravity feed system. However, you should only ever use this as a temporary solution. If your toilet tank isn’t filling, you should find out why. First, make sure the speedy valve connected to your toilet and your water main are open. If that doesn’t solve the issue, call in a professional to address the problem.

Even though their jobs sound similar—both professions work on pipes—a plumber and pipefitter actually have very different jobs, and pipefitting isn’t considered plumbing. Pipefitting is done in commercial and industrial buildings and factories, and the pipes carry gas, chemicals, acid, and other potentially hazardous substances. Pipefitters often work in intense conditions while plumbers may work in lower-pressure environments.

Polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, pipes are considered one of the best pipe types for drains and vent lines due to their low price point, lightweight material, corrosion resistance, and installation ease. But copper has long been considered the best piping option due to its durability. For many homeowners, though, the price of copper can be cost-prohibitive.
