The moving team arrived right on time the first day and got right to work. They were a whirlwind! I had everything boxed and ready and they just whisked all that out. Then they set their sights on the big furniture. This is where they really shined. I was worried because I had a lot of very heavy big wooden furniture, and it was on a second floor up a staircase that had a 90-degree turn. The crews who originally delivered some of that furniture had a very difficult time and were distinctly not happy about it. Well, the NES crew was not at all intimidated! They assured me that none of it was a problem, and they got it all right out. They were pleasant and cheerful the whole time, too, which made the whole experience so much easier for me. The crew treated my property as if it were their own. They removed the bulbs from lamps, carefully wrapped appliance cords, disconnected my washer and dryer, disassembled shelving units and tables, disassembled exercise equipment, and fully encased all the furniture in blankets and plastic wrap. Anything remotely breakable or scratchable got carefully wrapped. They also packed and moved seven flat screen TVs, including several 40-50 inch ones and one 70-inch one. None of this cost me a dime over the quoted hourly rate. Because they wrapped everything in plastic, it was not necessary to empty or even remove any drawers. They took dressers, tables, filing cabinets, and even a large upright freezer with all contents still inside, The different team who moved my mother's unit the second day was just as cheerful, professional, careful, and fast. They were very sweet to my mom, who wasn't fully ready to go by moving day. They quickly and cheerfully helped her finish her packing and calmed her nerves. They were also very patient with her beloved but spooked cats. Their service on the destination end was just as awesome. They had a really good sense of where everything should go, quickly bringing everything to its appropriate room (no doubt informed in part by where they originally found everything in the old home). They reassembled the items that they had disassembled, removed and disposed of the plastic, and even helped us decide how best to arrange the furniture in our new house. When they left, our new home was already fairly well set up and comfortable! Everything arrived safe and undamaged--not a single scratch! And again, every one of the guys was pleasant and friendly, even as they were hauling some staggeringly heavy or awkward furniture at the end of a long and tiring day. NES Movers truly came through in a big, big way and I can't thank them enough! Our old driveway was a mess. Only long enough for one car, so we parked the other on the grass, leaving a deep rut. There was no connector from the driveway to the front walk. The asphalt was broken, had deep depressions, and was impossible to shovel. Replacing it with asphalt was never an option?I don?t like the look or the environmental impact?so we researched concrete pavers. We interviewed three A-rated Angie?s List companies and wound up choosing the middle quote, not decided on price alone, but also the rapport we had with Ian at Premier. That might be mistake #1 if you don?t end up working with the individual who convinces you to hire their company. But we liked what he had to say, he drew up detailed plans, convinced us permeable pavers would be fine?we?d gone back and forth on that. It all seemed so neat and tidy. Mistake #2. Installing a driveway is not a clean and neat process. I understand that. I?d never done it before; these guys do it every day. I?m not saying they didn?t know what they were doing; they worked their butts off, rarely taking a break, though they never worked the sunrise to sunset hours Ian said they would. But the property is very small and urban. Permeable paving means digging down 14 to 16 inches and removing a lot of material. It started OK. They drew their lines and when I pointed out that the shape was wrong, they asked me for a copy of the plan Ian had drawn up. It showed the layout of the border. That went to the lead guy (who apparently never looked at it again). They spent the first day pulling up the old hideous asphalt. Then, the next day, the subcontractor with the Bobcat and dumpster got lost so was late. They filled the dumpster, trashing the lower branches of the street tree in the process. The guy leaves. Hours later, he comes back?with a still-full dumpster. Seems there was too much plant material, so wherever he was taking it refused the load. How do you not know where to take the debris or what you?re going to be hauling away? So he wasn?t going to be able to come back with the gravel. He also had the Premier guys smooth off the top of the load so you couldn?t see it above the rim. Seems he lacked the required cover for driving the stuff on the highway. So the driveway was now a long, deep trench. The plan was to put down layers of geotextile and washed stone (three sizes), then the pavers. So what order do they deliver the materials? The pavers show up before all the stone is put down. (One load was down, another was in the street.) Really. Nine pallets of concrete pavers and no place to put them. Naturally the space was too small for the forklift. So they transfer some pavers to the Bobcat and haul them to the back yard, mashing my lawn and a shrub in the process. More loads go into the front yard. No more room. The rest have to go on the sidewalk. (Of course, it?s also pouring rain.) By Day 3 I went back to work because watching was too stressful. So each evening I came home and looked around. The downspout was missing the long piece that would go under the gravel. They fixed it after I pointed it out. Then they didn?t put down the prescribed concrete bond beam along the edge. They fixed it after I pointed it out. Then the front gate wouldn?t open because the pitch was wrong. It?d always been a problem, but Ian had said they?d be able to fix that no problem. To fix it, they had to pitch the walk very steeply. But at least it opens. After they finished, I noticed the design of the blocks was incorrect. At first it didn?t bother me, but the more I looked at it, the more I didn?t like it. They came right back to fix it. Unfortunately, rather than redo the blocks, they just cut a line down them. It looked horrible. So they came back again and redid it. I also noticed the walk was too high at the steps, so the first step was lower than the rest. A trip hazard. They fixed that, too. But they made such a mess that they had to come back and clean up. They were very accommodating in making things right, insisting I had to be happy with it, which I am. But I think they had to come back three times to fix things that if they had only followed directions in the first place, they wouldn?t have needed to. In the end, it took a month longer than scheduled. I still have more lawn to repair. Also, beware. When they tell you they take credit cards, it?s not for the full amount. I think they only allowed half to go on a card. I honestly don't know whether I'd hire them again; I certainly don't plan on doing such work again. I'd recommend them to others with the warning to pay close attention and check the work carefully. There are things that are now buried under concrete and gravel and I may never know if they were done right or if they would have been done right if I hadn't looked closely. So far, the driveway is performing wonderfully. No rain puddles, it shovels like a smooth dream. My next milestone will be spring when I find out how much of a problem I?ll have from all those tree seeds that nestle so neatly into the seams. Will they sprout? I also have been careful to keep any loose gravel that comes out of the seams. I?ll sweep it back in after winter. But in the end, I?m loving the driveway and walkway. (I should note that I'm guessing about the service coming via the Boston North branch, since everything goes through the one web site and 800 number.) I was contacted by phone by a real human being to confirm the date and time. On the day of the pickup, I again received a phone call shortly before the beginning of the two-hour time window that I'd set, and was alerted of the approximate time of the truck's arrival, which was pretty accurately estimated. The truck arrived with two very professional and very helpful young men, who inspected with me the things that needed removal, gave me a price quote on the spot including details about additional charges required for disposal of the computer equipment, and then when I agreed, set to work immediately. They completed the work quickly but carefully, and came back in with shovel and brooms to clean up all the dirt and small and broken items that remained on the floor and shelves. The basement hadn't been so clean in years. They also picked up shards and other small items that had fallen between basement door and truck, so everything was left very neat. The service isn't cheap (which is why I rated B on price) but given the outstanding quality, I think it's worth every penny. FAQs for dirt hauling projects in Orange, MA
The kinds of items or materials accepted will vary by hauling company. Some companies will not handle hazardous waste, but hiring ones that do will cost from $5 to $100 or more, depending on what type and quantity of material.
Most companies will haul items such as:
Construction and remodeling waste: $100–$600
Appliances: $50–$600
Furniture: $50–$400
Electronics: $60–$200
Yard waste: $70–$500
Unfortunately, some plumbing scenarios, like a broken sewer pipe repair, will require excavation to complete the job. Plumbing excavation costs range from $30 to $70per cubic foot. However, if you need additional trenching, expect to pay an extra $4 to $12per linear foot. Keep in mind that these costs are on top of the plumbing repair costs, and they don’t account for labor costs. Consult your excavation specialist to determine an accurate estimate for your job.
The cost to hire a professional junk hauling service ranges from $60 to $600, averaging about $270. Your final price is determined by the type of junk, amount of junk, the distance to the dumpsite, and the equipment required to move and haul your items or materials. Keep in mind that construction junk removal is more expensive than hauling household items, so expect to pay $800 for removing large piles of debris.
The average cost for pool excavation is $2,500. This cost can range from $450 to $4,500, depending on the pool shape and size, time of year, and any need to move buried utilities.
When excavating for your pool, you might have to move existing utilities. You can expect to pay an additional $15 to $25per linear foot to move gas lines. To move a septic system, it’ll cost an additional $2,000 to $20,000. A pool that is 10 feet by 12 feet averages $450 to excavate, and a 20-foot-by-40-foot pool averages $3,020.
The cost for residential excavation is $3,200 on average, ranging between $50 and $200per cubic yard. Total costs could range from $500 to $15,000, depending on the project type, yard size, and soil type.
When a project needs an excavator, the contractor will subcontract one as part of the larger project. If you hire an excavation specialist, you can expect to pay between $40 and $180per hour. When excavating, if you have soil with excessive rocks or clay deposits, expect an additional cost of $200 to $1,200.
