"⸻ I recently hired Joe C. to install an EV charger at my home, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. From the start, he was upfront with pricing—no surprises, just a fair and reasonable quote. He communicated clearly and professionally throughout the process, showing up right on time and walking me through everything he was doing. His knowledge and expertise were immediately clear, and he made sure the installation was safe, efficient, and up to code. Everything was done neatly and exactly as promised. It’s rare to find someone this reliable and committed to doing quality work—I highly recommend him to anyone looking for electrical work, especially EV charger installations!"

"Top notch. Paul did a great job installing an EV charger in my garage. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. He provided me a competitive estimate for the job but I was amazed when he actually charged me less because he said it took him less time then he had originally planned to complete the work. I highly recommend Paul"

"Extremely happy with the service from Paul! I had an old 240V outlet in my garage I was hoping to use for a new electric car. Paul came out and got the outlet working again. He offered multiple options but didn't try to upsell me on the most expensive work. We mutually decided on the most cost effective solution (which was substantially less than other options). Paul is a very honest electrician and I will definitely use him again for any future needs."

"After coming out to my house for the initial estimate, and before I had finalized/decided to hire Harland Electric, Bill had already contacted the town electrical inspector and arranged for him to come look at our situation (besides needing the new service panel, I also needed to have the supply wire from the pole to the house moved). That pro-active work sealed the deal for me. We scheduled a time for a crew to come and replace the service panel and install the new lines two weeks out. Early the next week I got a call telling me that they had a cancellation, and could come the next day. A crew of two showed up bright and early, and it took most of the day to do just the service panel replacement. We scheduled another time for the pool equipment work. They showed up promptly for that as well. Even though the work took longer than expected, Harland charged me the original quoted price. The electricians that came to the house were professional, and you'd never know that work had been done, cleanup was so good."

"We have an older house (built ~1930) with largely original wiring and lathe and plaster walls. In other words a challenge when doing electrical or plumbing work. VMA Electric bid the job out carefully and coped with calm and competence with the inevitable difficulties (some incompatibilities between the main panel breaker and the charger's GFI, routing wire between the ground floor fireplace and the chimney on the roof, solution=an elegant wireless Lutron switch). Both the field and the office teams were efficient and pleasant. I would use them in the future without question. They were competent at every level. And while not the cheapest bid on all work, with an old house I have found it saves in the long run to go with an experienced firm."

"Michael was professional, responsive, and personable. He installed 3 outlets in our office suite and even came in on the weekend, which was super appreciated. Efficient, reasonably priced, and left no trace when he left. Definitely will hire for future projects!"

"Preston was great to work with! He was quick to respond to my request for a quote and was at the house three days later to complete all of the work. He installed a hybrid car charger, fixed some outlets, installed a new thermostat and answered all my questions with patience and knowledge. Preston is incredibly friendly, worked so hard and I won’t hesitate to recommend him to family and friends and anyone else asking me if I know a good electrician!"

Ev Charger Installer questions, answered by experts

The cost of installing a 240-volt outlet for an electric car averages between $175 and $300. Depending on the type of outlet as well as labor costs, you might pay as little as $130 or upwards of $400. Hiring a professional electrician makes up the bulk of the expense but ensures a safe and code-compliant installation.

Yes, electricians must be licensed, certified, and in most cases, insured. Licensing requirements vary by state and local municipality, but most U.S. municipalities require electricians to hold an electrical contractor’s license. It's always a good practice to confirm requirements with your local municipality. Even if licensing is not required in your area, hiring a licensed and experienced electrician often leads to a better end result.

A license is a legal requirement to operate a business and is necessary for pulling project permits. Certifications, on the other hand, are typically voluntary and demonstrate a certain level of expertise. In some cases, a certified electrician may send an apprentice or journeyman to perform the work, but they must operate under a primary electrician who holds the proper license.

Before hiring, you should verify the electrician's license, insurance coverage, and any third-party certifications. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing search to confirm a pro's license status. Additionally, businesses with the “Angi Approved” badge on our platform meet strict criteria, including having the required state and local licenses, passing a background check, and maintaining a high average rating.

You can plug your electric car into a regular 120-volt household outlet only if you’re using a Level 1 charger. This method is slower and may take several days to fully charge your EV. For faster charging, you’ll need a Level 2 charger, which requires a 220- or 240-volt outlet.

Hire an electrician the same way you would an employee. Ask questions and look for a good fit. Streamline the process by using these questions to ask an electrician. It's also common to ask for a quote in writing. Don’t forget to provide all the project details to ensure there are no surprises or opportunities for added fees.

Charging your EV every night isn’t always necessary. Most EVs have sufficient range to cover daily commutes without needing a nightly charge, particularly if you have a Level 2 charger. Charging once every few days or as needed can prolong the battery’s lifespan.
