"I am so thankful for the great work that was done in paving a new walkway for our home. Bernie was very professional and had a great eye on the best pavers to use along with the color to compliment our house. Nolisha was very, friendly, helpful and knowledgable with any concerns or questions that I had. The crew arrived on time and were very professional. They payed attention to detail from the start to the finish of the project, and gave their suggestions when I had any questions. My wife and I thank them for the amazing transformation and for their respect for our property! GO WITH MACAULEY BROTHERS, you will be so happy that you did! Gary & Brenda Quincy, MA"

"excellent job. Leave the site well cleaned off. Particularly appreciate their communications as each storm is different. They tell you when they will be plowing. They customize their service in terms of how much snowfall you will tolerate without their coming, whether or not to spread ice melter etc."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

It is possible to DIY complete hardscaping projects, but in most cases, hiring a professional is best to get the job done correctly. Hardscaping—including installing patios, decks, retaining walls, walkways, and water features—is challenging and time-consuming, so the money you spend on a professional is typically worth it. Not only will the quality be better, but you could avoid problems that come along with a lack of hardscaping experience, like drainage issues that can lead to costly foundation damage and leaks in your home.

When asphalt cures, it typically changes from a very dark black hue to a lighter, more matte gray color. Cured asphalt also won’t be tacky or sticky to the touch or emit any odors from the asphalt mix. Additionally, the surface of fully cured asphalt won’t deform under any pressure.

Box fill refers to the maximum number of conductors that can be contained within a wiring enclosure box, as well as the total volume of the components. Determining the allowable number of conductors in a box requires adding up the number of conductors, clamps, support fittings, devices and equipment, and equipment grounding conductors to make sure you’re within the allowable volume.

Building a road on a slope requires careful planning and will normally require a drainage system underneath to prevent flooding and damage to the road over time. Your professional may lengthen your road to create switchbacks if the slope directly to your home is too steep, as there are regulations for maximum road slope. The drainage system will help prevent runoff from the higher side of the slope from damaging the asphalt or concrete. Keep in mind that building a road on a slope isn’t a good DIY project, as a lot can go wrong.

Grass pavers are suitable for heavy foot or vehicle traffic, but they’re not as resistant as concrete or asphalt pavers.
