"CT Woodworking built custom cabinets and shelving for our home. They were hands down the lowest bid which is a concern in general however they did the job as contracted and the results were excellent. The only issue I had with the company was communication. Although it did not affect the timelines or the outcome, waiting days or a week for the reply to a phone call or email left me concerned at times. All in all an outstanding job."

"I have now had 4 pickups from this company. Each time it has been with different items: I have had my kitchen remodeled,  a deck torn down and rebuilt, a new roof put on, old fencing disc arded, and a yard cleanup. The only difference in pricing was for the roofing and even though ti was more money it was STILL CHEAPER than a dumpster!!! I don't know how these guys do it, but they pickup on time, without issue andfor the cost quoted. I have turned each of my contractors onto them - now they are using them. SO MUCH cheaper and better service than any dumpster company I have used!"

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

"Excellent service throughout the process from the beginning- from the moment we contacted them until the final installation. They accommodated all our requests and gave us a great price. We scheduled a time to choose the slate we wanted, and they were very patient, provided all the explanations necessary and helped us pick the best product for our kitchen design. They take one week to make the installation & arrived on time, performed the job in a very professional manner, and the end result was fantastic. I strongly recommend using their services."

"Quality of the work was fine and the price was competitive. Site was cleaned up afterwards satisfactorily. My biggest complaint is the lack of communication around scheduling, and later, re-scheduling. There was a several week break between the start and finish of the work.  Which can be understandable in this line of work, but I just can't understand why there is little to no communication- 30 second phone call, it's all I ask.  Instead, it's up to the customer to badger them to re-schedule a time to finish the job.  However, this has been par for the course in my experience with Boston-area contractors. So, as the bell-curve goes, this provider is probably better than most.  I would use them again if the communication kinks can get worked out.

"We contacted Richard regarding the job, and had a quote back within the week - good quote.  He quickly responded to any questions  we had, and scheduled the work.  They completed the demo in one day, a few days before the cabinets showed up - if I had to do this again, I would hold off on the demolition until the cabinets were in, as it is difficult to live without a kitchen, especially with children.  It took approximately two weeks for the kitchen to be completed, with slight delays due to a damaged cabinet, time for the new countertops to set, appliance delivery, etc.  One hitch developed when the dishwasher was hooked up incorrectly, and water ran into my basement - I called Richard, and once I got through the answering service, he contacted the plumber, and we resolved the problem immediately over the phone, and the plumber was at my house at 8 the next morning ( a Saturday of a holiday weekend) to permanently fix the problem.  At the end of the two weeks, we had a great new kitchen, well installed, and we were thrilled!"

Cabinet Contractors FAQs, answered by experts

It depends on your ceiling height. Wall cabinets are typically mounted 54 inches from the floor. So, if you have eight-foot ceilings, you’ll need 42-inch-high wall cabinets to fill the gap. And you’ll need 54-inch cabinets if you have nine-foot ceilings. But standard-sized cabinets don’t come in 54 inches, so you'll need to stack various sizes together. And, if you have ceilings higher than nine feet, it’s a good idea to have custom stacked cabinets made to fill your space.

Many cabinets use “J-pulls” or other handless designs. However, frequent use also gets these areas very dirty over time. A simple household cleaner and a soft washing cloth is usually enough to clean these areas when grime builds up. Adding a layer of lemon oil or beeswax can help prevent finishes from wearing off.

Yes, most installations include warranties for materials and labor. Confirm details with your contractor.

Since there are many methods of repairing your cabinets, including refacing and refinishing, it can be tricky to know when to replace or fix your existing cabinets. Generally, it’s best to repair your existing cabinets when the cabinet boxes are in good condition. Additionally, this option is best when you’re being budget-friendly or remodeling.

Replacing your cabinets is best when you’re changing the layout of the room or when the cabinet boxes are in rough shape. It’s also best to replace your cabinets if you need more storage space, as this will remove the existing cabinets for new ones.

If you have a drawer larger than 30 inches, you should consider adding two pulls, but, again, this decision is up to personal preference. Any pro you work with on cabinet installation can help you determine how many pulls you need and where you should place them.
