"Two men, Jerry and Tommy, arrived on the morning of May 19, 2017 to install the system. Tommy dug a hole on one side of the house, poured a concrete foundation in said hole, and also set up metal tubing, which created a stand on which the condenser sits to protect it from runoff. Meanwhile, Jerry was inside, drilling holes through my bedroom and dining room interior and then exterior walls for the refrigerant pipes which run from the condenser to the air handlers. He mounted each air handler high up on the wall. There was also electrical work performed to connect the units to the main panel in the basement. The whole job took several hours. Both men worked quickly and efficiently. At the close of it, Jerry presented me with my remotes and instructions, and showed me the basics. I used the system for the first time just a couple of nights after installation. The first night (it was the start of a heat wave) the air from the system was cool-ish - tolerable, but not quite as comfortable as I'd hoped - but I was still uncertain about the controls so I didn't tab down the temperature. The second night I did tab down the temperature, and that's when I found out that, though the fans and vanes in both air handlers worked, the cooling mechanisms did not. Considering the amount of money I'd just spent i was more than a little upset. Visions of law suits danced in my overheated head that night. I called the next morning. Jerry came out that day and diagnosed the problem (something to do with the solenoids, or maybe it was the thermistors). In any case, he did fix it, and this time, it worked as designed, and has done so ever since. I should add that NETR offers a service contract. Despite the added expense - for me, 234.99 a year for 3 years (the annual rate is fixed for that period, plus I get a 5% discount) - it makes total sense to have this complex system undergo periodic maintenance. I will pay the total at the time of the first inspection, in 2018."

"Anthony called right away and showed up on time. Both Anthony and Patrick were professional, knowledgeable and efficient. They walked in the door and immediately put on their booties. They installed a ceiling fan in my bedroom and a light over my painting. They vacuumed and cleaned up after they finished the job. They are a new company and young but I would hire them again because they know what they are doing."

"As my wife and I were planning the possibility of remodeling our bathroom, we decided to bring a few companies in to give us rough estimates and to also just meet people as sort of an interview to see how we thought working closely with them for a month would go.  We planned on bringing in about 3 different companies who clearly had a great track record on Angie?s List to see how we thought they would be to work with.
The 2nd company to come through was Superior Kitchens and Baths.  Jane Newhouse met with us in our bathroom and was so attentive and inquisitive of what we wanted.  We also knew that we liked her personality and her approach, so we decided to go with them.
The first thing Jane did was to send out a very itemized proposal and budget for us to use when picking out all of the tile, fixtures, tub, sinks, granite, etc.
The first thing we needed to do was to pick out tile for the floor and shower/bath.  Jane met up with us at Fitzgerald Tile in Woburn and helped us pick out tile that she not only thought would work well together, but we were really happy with, while staying within our budget.
The vendors that Jane recommended we use were all great as well.   Not only that, but they also spoke very highly of SK&B, which is always great to hear as well.  All subcontractors were also very professional and great to work with.
Our bathroom ended up being a complete gut (We did the demo ourselves to save a little money).  We went down to the studs, floor and ceiling so this was a pretty big project (1 month, plus another month to receive the glass for the custom shower).
It was quite amazing how part from an extra day needed for plumbing (unforeseen issue regarding the moving of our toilet), these guys were able to adhere to a daily schedule.  We almost always knew exactly what was going on each day.  Their workmanship is second to none, including the smallest details.
I highly recommend Superior Kitchens and Baths for a bathroom remodel ? that is, if you can book them.  They?re certainly in high demand, so plan ahead!

"Todd built a beautiful new ¾ bathroom and minibar in our basement. The job involved all new plumbing and a ceiling fan vented to the outside. It was a challenging job because of a low ceiling and other problems, but Todd came up with innovative solutions for all of the hurdles we ran into. This is the second project that Todd has handled for us, and we feel very fortunate to have found him. His workmanship is outstanding, he listens patiently to our questions and preferences, and he goes out of his way to make sure we are happy. His fees are also very reasonable. Todd is a real professional and it’s a pleasure to work with him; I would strongly recommend him for any remodeling project."

"I was a repeat customer of 128 Plumbing and Heating. Through the MassSave program, we had our entire furnace replaced (oil to gas conversion) as well as a new Central A/C unit and tankless Navien hot water heater. We originally called around (I was a much less experienced homeowner back then) as we wanted to explore just central A/C as we were expecting our first baby. The salesman Kevin came out, he gave us many options, he was very nice and professional. This is where 128 shines, in the sales process. They absolutely tell you they can do anything you want to hear, and sell you accordingly. They are extremely professional and always show up on time, no question. This is where their good part of their grade lies. We went with them for a massive $20k project getting the new water heater, A/C unit, and gas furnace. They were awesome helping with the rebate process for Mass Save. Everything went great there and I have no issues with this part. Now on to the bad. Fast forward a couple years and I am in the process of renovating my basement. I wanted to get some guys out to look at our duct work and plumbing in our basement as we need to move some pipes and ducts if possible for ceiling drywall. We had the owner come out for the plumbing and HVAC, he was again very professional, extremely nice. No qualms there. However a week later, once I got my quote for the work, it was almost $8,000. I thought, "jeez, this seems really high to move a few pipes around, move some duct work, and clean a drain line". They didnt even include copper to PEX conversion in this quote, which again seemed like a high price for not a huge job. While the owner was there for the HVAC, he mentioned that they have an in-house electrician. I did not realize this, and figured hey, maybe if I go with one company they can come out and do the job all at once and save me from bidding out multiple jobs. I got an appointment with the electrician, this is where it gets comical. He came out, I gave him my checklist (meanwhile, I had already gotten a quote from another trusted electrician that has worked on my house before). Everything seemed great, again, professional, punctual, courteous (even offered to help me take out my trash as it was trash day, lol). No issues with the professionalism. Fast forward another week and a half (took super long to get these quotes). The quote came back in at.... ..... ..... over NINETEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS (read: $19,100). I actually politely told them that this estimate was not even in the right stratosphere. I'm still trying to pry my jaw back up from the floor. Between moving some plumbing, ductwork, and electrical (rewiring, light switches, recessed lighting...no small job but nothing astronomical) we were talking over $26K. I've had friends redo their entire basement for under $15K with things like this included. My current electrician, who is not cheap by any means, but does great work, quoted the EXACT SAME project at $4800. Not sure where that remaining 15 grand went for 128, but that is just absurd to me. Now, I am looking to get my water heater, furnace, and A/C serviced. I figured I would call 128 because they were the original installers, but I am now very skeptical of their pricing after what I was just given. Needless to say, they were about double the price of other competitors I found right here on Angies list for basic furnace and A/C maintenance. 128 definitely lost me as a customer after that. TL;DR: 128 is very nice, extremely professional, punctual and courteous. They have good salespeople. That is where the fun stops. The pricing is outrageous, especially if you have any type of renovation project. The services they provide, while the work may be quality, you will absolutely pay much more than many other reputable companies. I found quite a few on this site with an A rating that gave much more competitive pricing on pretty much everything."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Yes, ceiling fans come with a few other features that help with function, style, and convenience. Multi-speed fans can give you specialized control over the airflow. Consider getting one with an integrated light to save ceiling space. Some ceiling fans come with a remote control that enables you to change direction without climbing a ladder. Of course, you can also consider installing a wall switch to enjoy that convenience.

Stainless steel or aluminum fans are long-lasting and have less air resistance. They are best for outdoor use as their durability helps them withstand unpleasant weather conditions. Their heavy weight requires a stronger motor, which leads to more noise than other blade materials.

Wooden fan blades are a classic, durable option. They are much quieter than metal fans and feature a wide range of styles and finishes to choose from. However, they can be damaged by moisture if not covered with plastic.

Plastic fan blades are lightweight, easy to clean, and versatile. There are various shapes and styles to choose from as plastic is easily molded and dyed. They will also deteriorate slower than other materials as they aren’t as susceptible to humidity and moisture.

The most efficient ceiling fan height is 8 to 9 feet from the floor to the fan blades. For ceilings higher than 9 feet, a downrod can be used to lower the fan to the optimal height. This positioning ensures adequate air circulation and maximizes the cooling effect. Remember, fans should be installed at least 7 feet above the floor for safety.

When choosing a mounting bracket, you have the option between flush mounts and downrod mounts. Flush mounts are the better option for low ceilings as they feature a lower profile. Downrod mounts are the optimal choice for rooms with high ceilings as they offer a pole that adjusts the height of the fan.

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.
