"Mike, Jesse, and the KTU South Shore Team did a wonderful job updating our kitchen. Everyone was very professional, attentive, and responsive. We are very pleased with the results. KTU South Shore worked closely with us to design a kitchen that met all of your needs and accommodated several requests that other contractors deemed as not doable or provided limited options. We highly recommend Kitchen Tune-Up South Shore and thank you for our new kitchen!!"

Customers say: True professional

"They do beautiful work. They redid some awful wood kitchen cabinets in a condo we inherited. They came out awesome and new hardware and hinges changed. We had them painted white with black hardware Very pleased with their work. They look like new! Don't hesitate to hire them if you need anything painted. It's a husband and wife team. They are the sweetest couple and truly care about their customers."

Customers say: Quality work

"I had 3 people come and assess what I wanted done. John was the only one who understood what I wanted and what to do. His pricing was in line with what I wanted to pay. His work was top notch. I have an older solid oak kitchen. I wanted soft closed hinges and drawers put in. John replaced all the hinges. He replaced the drawer boxes. Everything opens and closes smoothly. He is now working on a custom close for my trash bin. Fantastic."

"Sean did a fantastic job with our cabinets and was very pleasant to interact with. Kept us well informed throughout the whole project, installed/drilled our new handles, made sure doors were reinstalled evenly, and kept everything very clean and crisp. Would hire him again without hesitation!"

"Erick was great to work with. He stayed on time and the end result was perfect for the kids bathroom. He was clear about the work he would take on vs. other folks we would need to contract, ie electrician, plumber, etc. We will likely use him again."

Cabinet Contractors questions, answered by experts

The 1/3 rule is a design guideline used by interior designers and cabinet installers to select appropriately sized pulls for cabinets and drawers. The rule suggests that for a balanced and cohesive look, a cabinet pull should be approximately one-third the height of the cabinet door or one-third the width of the drawer face. This guideline helps create a symmetrical appearance because the human eye tends to follow the length of the pull across the cabinet face.

While the 1/3 rule is a helpful starting point, it is not the only option. If a measurement falls between available pull sizes, it's generally best to size up. For an ultra-contemporary aesthetic, you can also opt for full-width pulls that span the entire drawer.

Birch or maple plywoods have tight grain patterns and are dense species that hold up well over time and even in damp environments with proper sealing. These properties make them the most stable plywoods. Oak plywood is also an excellent option. However, care is necessary to ensure oak is well-sealed against moisture to ensure stability.

The cost to install a kitchen island ranges from $900 to $6,500, with an average price of around $4,800. The final cost depends on whether you buy a prefabricated unit or have one custom-built. Prefabricated kitchen islands are generally cheaper. A simple prefabricated cart can cost between $150 and $900, while a permanent, stationary prefabricated island costs from $900 to $5,000. A custom-built kitchen island averages around $4,800 but can cost $10,000 or more depending on factors like materials, size, design complexity, and accessibility.

Yes, most installations include warranties for materials and labor. Confirm details with your contractor.

Options include stock, semi-custom, and custom cabinets, each offering varying levels of personalization and cost.
