"Craig was very friendly and knowledgable today when I called him about his services. While he cannot do the service of removing squirrels in my basement and chimney, he was very helpful to provide advice on how I might be able to do it myself and save money. He gave me tips on trapping it and also offered to recommend someone that might be able to help me if I am not able to get the squirrel out myself. in addition, he also offered tips on how I might rid my basement of spiders.   • Apply a bird gel repellent to the railings, which contains smells that birds generally don’t like. Or, similarly, you can apply citronella or lemon oil around the railings, since birds don’t like strong smells.

The best way to deal with a rodent problem is to avoid it in the first place. One way to do that is to make your home smell uninviting to them. Here are some household products that can repel rodents. When using oils, try soaking a cotton ball in the stuff and leaving it in places rodents frequent:

  • Peppermint oil

  • Eucalyptus oil

  • Cinnamon

  • Vinegar

  • Cedarwood 

  • Cloves

  • Garlic

  • Chili oil/powder

  • Cayenne pepper

While you might want to cut corners by either borrowing or purchasing used live traps for catching rats, this can be dangerous because those traps could contain leftover viruses and bacteria that will enter your home. Always start fresh with new materials to avoid contamination.

Badgers have a strong sense of smell, so it’s possible you can deter them with strong scents, such as applying citronella oil to the bottom of your fence, adding crushed scotch bonnet peppers sprinkled throughout your garden, or mixing both of these into a solution to spray around your home and garden.
