"Rob & Drew did an absolutely fantastic job over three separate days installing and hooking up our distributed home audio system in our home, which was pre-wired for in-ceiling speakers. In preparation for this project, I had several questions regarding products, which Rob kindly answered in multiple emails. He was able to provide me with a very reasonable quote, which was much lower than other AV service companies I had contacted. I appreciated that he was able to work with brands that I wanted, and I never felt like he was trying to push a product on me to make more money.

Rob & Drew installed 24 in-ceiling speakers, ran my TV wiring behind the drywall, hooked up two multi-zone amplifiers to nine Sonos Connect modules, and installed two all-weather outdoor speakers over around 18 hours spaced over three days. And they did an incredible job. I'm listening to my Sonos system right now (all controlled through my phone), and it's amazing. When an error was made in installing the ceiling speakers (one completely my fault with the measurements), he was also quick to repair the job and make it look good as new.

He is extremely detail oriented, flexible, clean and respectful. We have two young children that nap in the afternoons, and both were flexible about moving the work around the house to not disturb the boys. He would also let me know that he left the gate open, just so we wouldn't let our dog run out of the house. He is also great at communicating, and will respond to your emails promptly.

We will definitely be using AVolutions for future projects, and have already had Rob take a look and help brainstorm ideas. If only every provider was this good, we wouldn't need Angie's List! Thanks again.

Home Security Systems questions, answered by experts

The average cost to install a home security system is about $750. However, the price can range from as little as $200 for a simple wireless camera setup to $2,000 for a fully monitored, hardwired system. A typical price range is $280 to $1,150. Several factors determine the final cost, including the type of system, equipment, materials, labor, activation fees, monthly surveillance fees, and permits. Optional upgrades will also add to the price, such as video surveillance monitoring ($40–$65 per month), smart locks ($150), smart lighting ($15–$90), smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarms ($35–$100), and a smart thermostat ($130–$500).

Security camera prices vary widely, with individual cameras typically ranging from $125 to $450 on average, not including professional installation costs. The camera's quality also impacts what you pay. Expect to pay more for desirable features, including a resolution of 1080p or higher, a field of view over 110 degrees, and enhanced night vision. Remember, your out-of-pocket installation cost will increase significantly when purchasing a complete system to cover your property inside and out.

Installing a gate on your property is often a worthwhile investment, despite the initial expense. Gates enhance your home's curb appeal and can increase its property value, making them more attractive to potential homebuyers. They provide significant security benefits by keeping out unwanted guests and increasing privacy for your household. Additionally, a gate can help keep children and pets safely contained in your yard.

For driveway gates, automatic versions are particularly convenient and tend to add more value than manual ones. The choice of gate material also plays a role in both aesthetic appeal and security. Beyond driveways, side gates can improve accessibility to your rear yard, making the outdoor space more usable. Overall, whether for security, safety, or aesthetics, installing a gate is a valuable addition to a property.

Any type of dead bolt lock provides the highest level of safety for a single device. However, it’s also important to determine a lock's grade. Locks can come in either Grade 1, Grade 2, or Grade 3, which indicates how durable it is and if it’s constructed solidly. Safety experts recommend choosing locks based on Grade 1, which offers the highest level of durability.

Smart deadbolts are a worthwhile investment for homeowners seeking more convenience, flexibility, and advanced features than a traditional deadbolt can provide. While a strong conventional deadbolt offers sufficient security for most, smart deadbolts provide significant upgrades.

Key benefits include keyless entry via smartphone, keypads, or biometric sensors, and the ability to lock or unlock your door remotely. You can also manage access for guests by creating temporary codes, eliminating the need for physical keys and the risk of them being lost or duplicated. Many models integrate with smart home systems and offer features like automatic locking, entry-exit monitoring, and tamper alerts with encryption for enhanced security.

However, there are downsides to consider. Smart deadbolts are more expensive than their traditional counterparts and rely on batteries and wireless networks to function. This dependency introduces potential vulnerabilities, such as hacking by skilled intruders and privacy concerns. Installation can also be more complex. Despite these drawbacks, the added layer of convenience and protection makes them a compelling option for many.
