"Your company is outstanding and we are extremely happy. Our technician Garett was prompt and polite. He was very knowledgeable and explained things about our situation that we were totally unaware of. Potentially saving us time and money down the road. Garrett was attentive to our to our needs and was very careful of our pets as he was working. We would definitely use Beacon Drain Service again."

"I hired this company because they charged me $49.99 to come to the house. Lewis , the technician, was wonderful. He replaced the toilet as I agreed. The toilet I wanted was a bit more expensive so I went with his suggestion . The total was $850. Which was high, minus my $49.99. Now $799. He sent me the invoice and I feel I was charged for $99.99 member fee, and $44.00 for an almost empty bottle of Mr Rooter drain cleaner. What?? That's crazy I got the least expensive toilet $223.00 at Home Depot. And I paid $799 for the service. Oh the $99.00 member fee was Free because I would have had to pay an additional $102.00 without it. What the heck does that mean. I should have left the $49.99 and gotten someone else to do the job. Saving at least $200.00 This has no reflection on the technician, he was doing his job. But I wouldn't hire this company. My mistake."

"Wow! Unbelievable! If we ever have a water problem again, Pioneer will be the only waterproofing company that we call. We were getting some water in our basement which has a stack-stone foundation and radiant floor heating. We interviewed three companies and were particularly concerned about a solution that would stop the water without compromising the radiant tubes that were in the floor. Initially, Pioneer recommended a baseboard system that would run along the outside of the wall. Upon inspection, Mike Oliveira discussed a traditional drain to sump pump solution. We reiterated our concern about puncturing a tube in the floor and Mike assured us that he and his team would hand chisel potential problem areas to avoid the tubing. Moreover, this solution would save us roughly $2K and give us a lifetime guarantee vs. a 25 year guarantee on the baseboard system. The team showed up on time, cleared a 50' span of concrete by Noon, uncovered two sections of radiant tubing without puncturing the line, installed the moisture barrier, sump pump and new concrete by 4 p.m. They had to drill through a hefty header board to connect the pump line to an existing drainage line that carries water away from home and that was completed by 5:30 p.m. Mike came back in a week and we tested the fix using free-flow from our sprinkler system -- it worked perfectly. Subsequently we've had some consistent spring rain and absolutely no water in the basement. The team (including sales, service, billing, installation) was professional, courteous and available when we had questions. They saved us money, fixed our problem and provided a lifetime guarantee. We're both ecstatic and amazed!"

"I hired Inner Boston Masonry & Construction to remedy a problem with standing water in my yard after even moderate rainfall. They installed a French drain system and tied in the gutter downspouts and this has greatly improved the situation. They were easy to work with - messages were returned promptly, they arrived when they said they would, completed the work promptly, and cleaned up all debris at the end of the project."

French Drains questions, answered by experts

That pungent rotten egg smell coming from your drain is likely the buildup of biofilm—hair, skin, and soap scum that turns into a black sticky mess. In this case, pouring down near-boiling water, baking soda, and white vinegar will remove the smell. Keep in mind that a rotten egg smell is occasionally a sign of larger sewage line clogs and other related issues.

You can unclog a double kitchen sink by plunging the side with the garbage disposal. Cover the drain hole on the other side first to avoid creating a mess. Plunge up and down until the water starts to drain. You can also pour in baking soda and vinegar to try and dissolve a clog.

You can pour hot water down your gutter drain to melt ice and keep ice dams from forming. If the problems persist, consider investing in heat cables to run in your gutters. Heat cables can adjust based on the surrounding temperature to keep ice thawed.

A two-way cleanout can help if there’s already a clog, but the best strategy to prevent one is by not rinsing grease, oil, or fat down your drains, not flushing or rinsing coffee grounds or egg shells down your drains, flushing only human waste and toilet paper (so no diapers, period products, bathroom wipes, or paper towels), and using drain guards on all of your drains.

Even if the shower drain doesn’t seem clogged or dirty, plan to clean it out about once per month—or more frequently if you or your family shed a lot of hair. It’s a good practice to remove any hair from the drain on a daily basis, as hair can accumulate fast and cause clogs in no time. You may also want to have a plumber thoroughly clean the drains in your home once every six months.
