"Chris responded immediately. Came to my home on a Sunday and he & his crew started the next Tuesday. I never thought I could have my home painted in 8 days. From start to finish, he & his crew were here promptly at 8am. From the prep to the final coat of paint, they were professional and thorough. Not a spot of paint on my brand new floors. The price I was quoted was the price I paid. It was worth every penny. I plan on hiring them again for my kitchen and bathroom redo....I highly recommend that you do too!"

Small jobs welcome

"We were completely happy with Al and his worker Dave. They did a wonderful job in painting our kitchen ceiling which we had done by another painting Co. and it was a mess. They were totally professional and friendly. Not one drop of paint splashed anywhere, cleaned up everything beautifully. Would hire them again without any hesitation. Great guys to work with."

"Charles painted the second floor of my in-law's new home in Brewster. It was a large room with cathedral ceilings, stained walls and a textured ceiling .as well as a bathroom. His workmanship is top notch; it looks like a new house! He was reasonably priced, prompt, cleaned up at the end of each day and made some recommendations to help make everything look perfect. Would definitely use again and highly recommend him!"

"BRAVO !!! I am thrilled with the beautiful painting job done by Regal Custom Painting at my home in Pocasset (Cape Cod) MA. The two Regal painters were courteous, careful to keep my gate closed, were pleasant, and did a PROFESSIONAL JOB for me. I had peeling paint on the windowsills ... metal baseboard registers that were showing their age, etc. Emerson, the owner, explained the process to paint the ceiling, walls, doors, and windows, baseboards ... using primer, sanding, etc. Additionally, I had newly installed flooring ... of course, one should have the painting done first ... then new floors installed, but I had to grab the floor installation date or wait until later in the Summer Not a problem, said Emerson, and sure enough, my new floors did not have any paint transfer to them while the baseboards were painted. I will be calling to have my Shed stained by Regal next! Highly recommend! Beautiful job using Ben Moore quality paint."

Customers say: Terrific value

"We bought a condo in Cape Cod and we needed to paint it but live out of state so we did not have any contacts in the area. We looked for painters over the internet and found Felipe at FCL Painting. Felipe was so professional, flexible, and easy to work with. His quote was fair, and his work was great. We were not there to check on the workday by day, so he kept us updated with videos and pictures. When we arrived, the condo was not only painted but also cleaned from debris. We felt incredibly lucky to have found such a reliable and trustworthy contractor. We will definitely use his services again in the future."

Customers say: Quality work

"I needed the outdoor trim of my house painted so I went through Home Advisor to see what would come out of that. Andre responded to my need and provided me with a very professional quote. I selected his company to do the work and I am extremely glad I did. These guys went above and beyond to deliver excellent work. I was a bit nervous as I was coming up against the Holidays and needed to get this work completed quickly. His team showed up very early AM daily and worked until sunset. This was a challenging job to ensure the trim next to newly installed shingles was meticulously painted. They met the challenge!! All other trim work was equally well done!! My wife and I are super impressed and would recommend them in a heartbeat. If you need painting done you will not be disappointed."

Painting questions, answered by experts

Routine staining or sealing and periodic inspections to extend life.

Typically, a fence requires one to two coats of stain. The exact number can vary depending on the porosity of the wood. For specific guidance, it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions. After applying the first coat and letting it dry completely, you can assess the finish. If it appears patchy, uneven, or you want a more saturated color, a second coat is recommended. An extra coat can also help cover lap marks.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

Wood stains last anywhere from two to five years, depending on exposure to the elements, your local climate, the type of stain, and the surface it’s on. For instance, vertical surfaces last longer than horizontal surfaces. Some types of woods, like dense hardwoods, will require a recoat yearly, as they are too dense for the stain to absorb. In any event, apply a recoat every 2 to 4 years. As for storage, a can of unopened stain can last up to 5 years, though results may vary.

Staining pressure-treated wood is a recommended practice. While inherently resilient, it's not impervious to moisture and UV exposure. Staining treated wood is feasible and recommended for enhanced protection and longevity. Applying stain and sealant safeguards against degradation, prolonging its life span. These measures shield the wood from environmental threats while augmenting its aesthetic appeal, ensuring your investment endures the test of time.
