"We had a great experience with the Lux Renovations and Owens Corning team. The whole process was very easy from designing the space, selecting colors, and having a contract manager who organized the entire basement remodel including all the trades and inspections. We were sold on the Owens Corning materials for the basement and that they were engineered specifically for a basement space. Would highly recommend this team for your basement remodel needs."
"Weâ re so happy we finally decided to remodel our basement! Now the kids have a bigger place to play, I have an office and we have a workout area. The best part was how quick it was!"
"I recently had a basement finishing project completed by WR Builders, and I am thrilled with the outcome. They turned my unfinished basement into a beautiful living space that my family loves. The crew was friendly and professional, making the whole process stress-free."
"We finished about 800 SF of basement and renovated the kitchen, dining and living areas. We emailed with Kim and met with John and were pleased with how responsive they were. Once we selected them, we met a few times to review the details and refine the scope of work. John and Kim were both attentive listeners as we collaborated on the details of the project - John had many creative solutions for several parts of the project. We found their price to be quite competitive with the other bids we received for the work. They work with subcontractors they know and trust, and we found them all to be professional and very capable. Being a renovation, we expected there would be a number of unforeseen conditions along the way, but John and Kim have a lot of experience with basement projects, and they anticipated many of these issues - making sure to bring up ahead of time any questions he had about particular details, and there were very few surprises - and no surprises whatsoever during inspections and obtaining the certificate of occupancy. Much of this project happened during the COVID-19 pandemic, and so our family was home all day for several months during the project. Not only was John very safe following PPE best practices, he was very helpful in helping us coordinate the few times he would need us to be out of the house (for painters, etc.) The project duration was longer than we first expected, but this was due to pandemic limitations, and John made sure we understood and were aware of any changes to the original schedule. Overall, working with John and Kim was a really enjoyable experience. We've completely overhauled our home and are very pleased with the results. We would hire them again in a heartbeat."
"When we started our plan of remodeling, the first thing we did was the complete roof replacement including kitchen vent & duct pipe installation to the roof, and new installation of attic ventilation. MMP did not only completed it just as agreed but also very efficiently. The crews were friendly, professional, and careful. The jobs were carefully managed and implemented effectively. I was impressed by Matt, who is the manager, and he does an outstanding job in managing the crews and the progress of the situation, and the communication was clear and always to the point. We then moved to initiate a search for a contractor of two bathrooms remodeling after completing the roof and attic vent, MMP was one of the many candidates. Matt has had not only the best idea and proposals but also shown an impressive & professional sense of evaluating the project accurately, including the possible structural modification as well as a competitive estimate of the cost of the build. His proposal included a rebuild of a wall of the bathroom to expand another one adjacent to it. Matt accepted to use my schematic design image (made with a software tool) and a spreadsheet list of the fixtures that I created - as many as fifty items including TOTO, Grohe, American Standard, Panasonic, and IKEA - to start the job (later changed some of them due to local plumbing code compliance) After beginning the bathroom remodel project, Matt shared what jobs will be done with us timely and efficiently via text so that we feel comfortable enough in knowing what is going on while living in the house of dust & noise from remodeling. The crews, Zen and Mark, were very courteous, extensively experienced, reliable, and friendly with excellent communication, sometimes with songs of 80s rock music. They ask me when more precise specifications are needed and notified me when they feel advance notifications are required. When a change is necessary due to inspection, they informed me and clarified what and why. I have never felt uncomfortable in living together with the remodel job which has lasted over four months. The completed two bathrooms were stunning, just as I imagined. Matt, Zen, and Mark have proved their strong & thoughtful expertise and lived up with my request patiently until completion. Great job. A home remodeling project cannot be successful without having a trusted partner, and my experience with MMP has led me to be glad to share my confidence that MMP has a credential to become your reliable partner to manage a construction project together."
"Mostly well. We purchased the Big Deal for 2 painters for a day which said it would be 2 painters for 9 hours for a total of 18 hours. They showed up with 3 painters and said their day would end earlier since they would hit their 18 hours sooner with 3 people. I do wish we had known that in advance, but it worked out. They told at the beginning that the oil based primer wouldn't have time to dry because it needs to dry for 24 hours, so we had to go back to get latex primer while they prepped. That was disappointing because everything I read was that the soot should really be covered with oil based primer so that it didn't bleed through. I wish they had told me that when we were exchanging emails about the job, but maybe I should have known that already. We had to have the job done that day though, so rescheduling wasn't really an option. When my husband returned to the store to get latex paint, they asked him to pick up a pack of rollers also. They did a quality job, painting the ceiling which was probably difficult since the family room had two levels, with part of the room having very high ceilings with skylights, and another part of the ceiling was over a staircase to the basement. Since we had purchased a deal that was for a specific time frame, they covered a lot with their time, and my husband was set to complete what they didn't get to. We were happy they were able to prime and paint the entire family room for the most part, and able to prime the bathroom as well. They were flexible and worked with us with what to do. We needed to paint the family room and bathroom and kitchen. We only wanted to pay for the one day and my husband was prepared to finish whatever was left over himself. We were hoping they would finish the family room at least. At some point my husband saw how much time was left, and decided he would rather have them prime the bathroom instead of cutting in along the floor in the family room with the paint (since my husband would rather finish the paint than deal with priming the bathroom himself). They didn't have a problem with that. The rooms turned out very well. Would use them again in the future. "
"I couldn't have asked for a better team to help with my project! Grainne, John and James were incredible to work with. They supported us through every step of the way - very responsive, detail oriented and efficient. They offered their professional input while respecting our needs, and I really appreciate that they always had my best interest in mind. I was so impressed that everything stayed on schedule and completed in just 6 weeks (full kitchen and bathroom remodel, installed new floors, and repainted the whole apartment). This was my first home renovation and have heard that things rarely stay on schedule, so we were really lucky to work with Kinsella Built!!"
"I recently hired Jack to gut/remodel my kitchen, bath, living, and laundry rooms, as well as some other home repairs. I would categorize Jack as professional, reliable, honest, and responsible; and he was respectful of my needs throughout the project. He provided detailed estimates and worked within my budget without any surprises. He exceeded my expectations and took pride in his work. I was extremely satisfied with the quality of the renovation and I have gotten great feedback from family and friends."
"I recently contracted with Abalia Construction to finish my basement, and overall, my experience was great! Things that stand out for working with Khaled are his communication style, his ownership/creativity to meet the design in delivering the end-product and his efforts to keep our project timeline and budget. He brought fresh and innovative ideas to the table, transforming our basement into a unique space that stands out. The incorporation of creative elements added a distinct touch, making the final result more interesting and personalized. Khaled demonstrated an ability to manage time effectively, ensuring that the basement was completed within the specified period and provided a realistic cost estimate from the beginning which they stuck to. There were still some unforeseen delays to the project due to either material back-order or unavailability of workers, but still Khaled worked personally to keep the project on task and within reasonable time. Communication with Khaled was great as we were able to approach with any issues/concerns and he was able to have a logical cordial discussions to reach to an aligned position. He was responsive to queries and concerns. While the basement looks great quality there were still instances where attention to detail seemed lacking. The subcontractors and workers employed were also skilled professionals however their attention to details could have been better. Moreover, communication with workers/sub-contactors was little challenging due to fact them not speaking English. Clearer communication on these fronts could have mitigated some of the concerns I had during the construction process. However, Khaled overcame these challenges by taking an active role in addressing any issues even when it meant that he had to re-do some of the activities again, bringing his workers back, or even him spending long hours to complete the job to our satisfaction. In summary, Abalia Construction delivered a basement finishing project that showcased creativity and was completed within the agreed-upon timeframe and within budget all with an excellent communications. Without any doubt, they will be the first I reach out to for my next project."

Yes, adding a walkout basement will usually bump up your property value. Most homeowners prefer walk out basements because the exposed wall that’s level with the ground provides more utility via a ground-level exterior entrance, and they can fit full windows, which adds natural light and ventilation to the basement area. The only exception might be in areas prone to tornadoes, as walkout basements aren’t as safe as regular basements during a tornado, particularly if they include large windows or glass sliding doors.
Roughing in and connecting utilities are the hardest parts of finishing a basement, and they’re the parts we typically don’t recommend doing as a DIY project. Unfortunately, your finishing timeline can be extended by weeks while you wait for contractors and inspectors to install electrical wiring, plumbing lines, and heating/cooling equipment and carry out inspections.
While bathrooms and kitchens are nearly equal in terms of renovation difficulty, kitchens are the most challenging. Kitchen design, layout, electrical, and plumbing needs all depend on each other for the success of the entire project, and mistakes early in the project can cause trouble later on.
Yes, you can install a summer kitchen or kitchenette in your basement. They serve similar purposes as outdoor kitchens, keeping the main floor of the house cool and providing another space to cook and congregate. Basement kitchens are also a worthwhile alternative for homeowners without much space in the backyard. They come with a few logistical questions to sort out, though, like ventilation and waterproofing.
A walkout basement is considered to be partially below grade because at least one wall is entirely exposed. In some cases and in specific municipalities, inspectors and appraisers will still count walkout basements as below grade, which means the space can’t serve as living space or be rented out. If you intend on using the area as living space or a separate apartment, you should check with your local building department to make sure it’s legal to do so.
