Customers say: Quick response

"We enjoyed working with John and his crew. John has a good eye for assessing what needs to be done. He presented us with a reasonable estimate and a time line which he followed. He informed us of his progress on a daily basis and always checked in with us to make sure that he was doing everything according to the way we wanted it. His prices were reasonable, yet he used good quality materials, and his workmanship is excellent. By the time the deck had been repaired, sanded, and refinished, it looked better than it ever had before! We would strongly recommend Carenzo Remodel and Repair for any projects you have in your home."

"Nana and is team are very considerate to the customers concerns. They are in constant motion fro the time the arrive to the time the end for the day. The work they perform is excellent and customer service is at the top of their list. I had ceilings in seven rooms, 2 bathrooms 2 halls and a stairway with popcorn ceilings removed and plastered. They covered the carpet and flooring as well as covering items that could not be moved. Clean up was good and only residual dust was needed to clean up. I would hire them again if i had a project in their specialty. I would also recommend them without any reservation. Good guys, friendly, proficient and dependable."

"Very well. Mike returned my call and showed on time for estimate. He pointed out the problem (a missing slate) that I did not see before. He set an appointment to do the work, but knowing a storm was approaching, made time to do repair earlier. That I appreciated too. Also showed concern over walking on old slate and was very careful when the work was done. Work proved to be an excellent fix. Leaks no more, will certainly call SECURE in the future when need arises."

"Mark was punctual and painted the room with an associate. Even though I previously painted the room twice with a primer, when Mark painted the room there were areas that obviously needed another coat. Mark also squeezed us in , so in the morning he was at one job and in the later afternoon came by to do our job. Unfortunately at that time of the day it was getting darker, so you couldn't see the walls, trim and ceiling needed a second coat until the next morning. We furnished premium paint for the job and Mark furnished the ceiling paint. Also, attention to details was substandard . For example some trim painted was on the wall and visa versa. Mark came back to address these matters when it was pointed out to him."

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

It is possible to apply plaster on the interior or exterior of your home, but we don’t recommend it. Plaster is easy to apply in theory, but in reality, it can be a challenging material to work with, and it’s difficult to get the finished product to look clean, even, and smooth. Many DIYers end up calling in a professional afterward to touch up the area or even redo it entirely because of mistakes they made in the process. Hiring a plaster pro will cost more, but it’s usually the best option to achieve high-quality results.

The tool you use to sand plaster will depend on the size of the project. If you’re just working on a small section of your wall to get rid of an uneven spot on the surface, hand-sanding might work. However, for larger projects, a drywall sander can make a huge difference when it comes to both time and elbow grease—and an orbital sander can help for detailed areas such as around ceiling fans.

Look for flaking paint or air bubbles that burst and then flake away. Paint will begin to flake after being exposed to minimal moisture or water, so it’s a good indicator of any water damage. If you notice your paint starting to flake, feel the plaster underneath to see if it is soft or damp.

Both plaster and drywall are durable wall finishes, but they differ significantly in installation, cost, performance, and aesthetics.

Installation & Cost: Drywall installation is faster and more affordable, typically costing $1.50 to $3 per square foot. It uses premade sheets, making it a more accessible DIY project. Plastering is a labor-intensive craft that requires specialized skills, pushing costs to $2 to $10 per square foot. It involves applying a wet paste over a lath framework.

Durability & Performance: Plaster is generally more durable, longer-lasting, and provides superior soundproofing. It is also a better insulator, which can help reduce energy costs. Drywall is easier to remove for future renovations.

Aesthetics: Drywall provides a smooth, uniform surface ready for paint or texture. Plaster offers a high-end, naturally textured look that can hide imperfections and is often preferred for achieving a classic or historic aesthetic.

Which is better? The choice depends on your priorities. Drywall is ideal for those prioritizing a lower upfront cost, faster installation, and DIY potential. Plaster is the better option for a higher-end project where durability, soundproofing, and a unique, premium finish are more important than the initial cost.

In most cases, plaster repair will improve your home’s energy efficiency because a solid barrier of the insulative material helps keep conditioned air inside your home. Major plaster repair jobs like repairing large cracks or crumbling sections of plaster or applying a skim coat might make a noticeable difference in your heating and cooling bills. Not only can plaster repairs improve efficiency, but they can also reduce strain on your HVAC equipment, potentially saving you money on maintenance and repairs.
