Yes, it’s fine to drink softened water. However, if you follow a low-sodium diet or have high blood pressure or sodium-related health concerns, make sure to speak with your doctor beforehand. If they advise against drinking water that’s been softened with sodium, you might be able to use potassium in your water softener instead.

Hard water isn’t necessarily bad for you. In some ways, it’s good for you. If you’re deficient in magnesium or calcium, hard water can give you a mineral boost that you wouldn’t get with soft water. Letting air circulate also helps prevent water spots, as water is less likely to remain on the glass for a long time with good air circulation. Run your vent fan, open a window, and leave the shower door open for about half an hour after using the shower.
