"We had used Fitz perviously and found the plumbers professional and hard working. The services were expensive but it is hard to find good plumbers. Fitz was hired to prepare my new home for a gas inspection. There were some minor tie ins and connections that needed to be performed. The plumbers came to the home and performed only part of the work and promised to return to complete the services. When we tried to get them to return to have the work completed, they explained that they were too busy. This put my wife and I in a situation where we did not have hot water for 2 weeks. Several weeks later we received a $2527 invoice for installing approximately 10 ft of screw piping, a couple plugs, 3 ea 1/2 gas valves, a regulator to our range, a gas test they did not complete because there were leaks, and a gas line to a gas lantern in the front of my home that they never installed. After disputing the costs and a lengthy negotiation we were told that we had not paid for a previous visit which is why we needed to pay at least $1527. We finally agreed to pay $1527 which was much more that should have been charged for the little amount of work performed and to just get a resolution. After further review, we found the paper work showing we have paid for the previous services. Chris with Fitz, lied to us about not paying for our previous services. I would not recommend using Fitz for plumbing services. They are expensive and not honest."

Water softener versus water filter: which one should you choose? If you want to remove minerals, opt for a softener. If you want to remove a wide range of contaminants, go for a filter. Or, you can install both.

Hard water doesn’t hurt, but it might feel more abrasive, especially if you have sensitive skin. It’s also about how your skin feels after bathing. You might feel as though you have a sticky film over your body because you do—it’s all that soapy residue left behind because the hard water can’t rinse it off completely.

Just as hard water can wreak havoc on your skin by drying it out, it’s also not great for your hair. That’s because hard water won’t rinse out shampoo and conditioner as effectively as soft water can. All that product buildup isn’t good news for your hair, which can look dull and limp over time with hard water.

It does cost money to have a water softener, both for installation and ongoing maintenance. It’s not a good idea to oversize your water softener. Doing so will mean the tank doesn’t get full, which can lead to channeling. This leads to a large portion of the resin beads not being utilized and the beads at the bottom of the tank being overused. Over time, this will reduce the efficiency of your system, not to mention that the upfront cost of an oversized softener is unnecessarily high. If you have a timed regeneration cycle rather than a demand-based one, you’ll also spend far more on replacing salt than you need to.
