"My next door neighbor's house was robbed last week, and I realized that I needed to do something to give me further peace of mind. Purchased new home security with ADT and opted to get the premium options with flood detection and carbon dioxide monitoring. Keep up the nice job ADT!"

"So far great. I called for an estimate, the sales guy wanted me to purchase of course but wasn't overbearing. We got the system shipped to us. This is a DIY install, so just know that going in if you buy one. Also, there is a one year or 3 year contract, and if you want out of the contract, you will pay 80% of the remaining contract. The sales guy was very upfront and clear about that. If you move you can take your system/contract with you, or transfer it to the next homeowner. There are videos you can watch about installing, as well as a manual -- took a little looking on the website but there are multiple helpful manuals, call and ask if you can't find them. Also, calling the tech guys for help was easy, I was able to get through with little or no wait, and they were patient and very helpful each time. Having never installed a security system, it took us an evening rather than 15 minutes, but we have old doors that are not flush with the jams and needed to figure out how to line up the door sensors. That, and figuring out where to place the motion detectors, was all that really took time, it wasn't too bad. The base unit worked fine from the start, the voice has a pleasant British accent when "she" talks to you. You can arm your system and disarm with their keychain remote, but that left us unsure whether the system was in fact armed. (Couldn't hear the nice British voice through our door). Using our mobile phones seems better for us, the package where you can use your phone does cost $10 more per month but seems worth it to us. I did look into another very similar DIY system from another company that was less per month with no contract, and read many reviews. It seemed that other's experiences with customer service was sometimes good, sometimes not, and some had good experiences with the equipment, some didn't. We decided Front Point is worth the extra $ rather than take a chance. As far as cost, we got 2 door sensors, 3 motion detectors, base unit, stickers and sign for $99, our monthly fee is $45 with a 3 year contract."

"We have our second home in the mountain so they were able to send it and he was able to work with our installers and it worked out fine. So far we were are pleased with it. We were with another security system for 12 years and we changed because their selection of product was of a higher grade. They are excellent."

"The door had been kicked in by an employee trying to get access without a key.  Door was splintered and unable to be fixed. The doorframe was also an odd size so it required a special cut to be done. John worked with us to get the damaged door removed and measured to be taken to the location to have the new one specially cut since it was not a normal size.  He returned and replaced the door for us.  We were closing this location and the landlord was happy as were we with the job.

We have used John and Barco Electrical since 2012 for electrical and handyman type jobs at our locations in Shreveport.  Always pleasant on the phone, responsive and on time.  Gets the job done right.  A pleasure to work with."

"We like their service. We haven't had any problems. They are very good. This was the first time we've had an alarm/security system in our home. The supplier is ADT. I like that I can set my alarm every night before I go to bed."

"Yvette Pringle provided courteous and professional feedback to me when I called to inquire about a new home security system.  My situation was unique because we were trying to find something that would work for a deaf person.  I appreciated that Yvette did her research to find out what would work.  She also offered different options in terms of a package and plan.  We did end up going with another company, but I really did want to recognize Yvette for her work.  She was very polite and helpful.

"OK first of all I never write reviews, dont have the time.  However, the experience I had was amazing.  I mean from when they answered the phone I felt comfortable.  No high pressure, very straight forward salesperson.  I called two other companies and both tried to upsell me from what they advertised.  I am so happy I called Skycover! They did not try to upsell me.  I purchased exactly what was advertised and saved even more money than I thought.  I got a video camera for free with the system!  I have a home office and now I can see what my assistant is doing from anywhere I travel in the world and I frequently travel to China for work.  The system arrived to my door in a beautiful box and I will admit was concerned about setting it up, but it was plug and play just like the salesperson said.  It took me less than 30 minutes in total and was super simple.  I control everything from my phone.  This is the greatest thing I have done in a long time, I would recommend this product and company to anyone I know!

Security Doors questions, answered by experts

Each has its use, depending on the scenario. Security doors are primarily intended to keep people out of the home, while storm doors are used to protect the home from extreme weather. Both tend to be made from heavy-duty metal and may include glass panels to allow light to enter the home. Storm doors can feature mesh screens, just like screen doors, to allow for increased ventilation and to keep out pests. Security doors rarely, if ever, have mesh screens.

Home automation systems offer a wide range of automation products and services. Some of the most popular options include:

  • Cameras: $35–$350

  • Door and window sensors: $20–$100

  • Locks: $150–$400

  • Garage door openers: $150–$500

  • Lighting: $20–$100

  • Speakers: $30–$300

  • Outlets and plugs: $20–$100

  • Thermostats: $150–$300

  • Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors: $50–$150

  • Vacuums: $200–$1,200

  • Water monitoring: $100–$1,000

A deadbolt differs from a regular lock in its design, construction, and security level. Regular locks are typically used for interior doors, such as for bedrooms and bathrooms, and provide minimal security. They are easy to install and use, often featuring a simple locking mechanism on the inside. In contrast, a deadbolt is one of the most secure locks you can install on an exterior door. Its internal construction is designed to withstand significant force, adding a crucial layer of security that can deter intruders. While deadbolts may be more expensive and complicated to install, they are cost-effective for the security they provide and are built to hold up to wear and tear.

Yes, you can install a home security system in an old house. In fact, you can install a security system in any home. Some wiring may need to be added, but most home security systems do not require a lot of additional wiring. Wireless security systems can easily be installed with minimal additional wiring, if any at all. Most wireless security systems can be monitored and controlled from your smartphone, and the cameras and sensors operate on batteries.

In general, keyless door locks are considered safe, and their security depends on the type and quality of the lock. They cannot be picked like a traditional lock and often include added features like biometric access, PIN codes, and smartphone connectivity, which can make them more secure. However, they are not without risks. Potential vulnerabilities include hacking for Wi-Fi-connected models, battery failure, power outages, and technical malfunctions. To maximize security, it is important to choose a reliable brand, stay on top of software updates, and perform regular maintenance. While the risks are different, keyless locks are not considered more dangerous than traditional locks.
