"Getting a whole house generator is a huge investment so I shopped around and got 4 quotes because of the wide range of cost estimates. Other people said the cost "would be around" an amount, and Brandon gave me a detailed exact price. Had people tell me different things about where I could put the generator. Brandon came out and explained everything and said I could put the generator where I wanted it. His crews (electrical, gas) were professional, appeared to know exactly what they were doing, worked efficiently, and left the job site very clean. Brandon provided everything I wanted--he has a long track record of installing generators, has been in business for many years, offered a 10 yr warranty, offers an annual check-up plan, and made sure I was happy with everything."

"Ed Riley is extremely knowledgeable about what causes lighting and how to protect from it. He explained to me which and how structures develop static electricity that lead to lighting discharges in a way that the physics made sense to me. They were also reasonably priced and kept their word. Definitely recommend them."

The repairs were done in a reasonable amount of time and he was diligent about making sure everything was working properly before leaving. "I hired Prime Time Construction to raise the foundation of a 16’ x 20’ prefabricated back yard shed and fill in back yard area with river sand. I first contacted owner Brandon in Oct 2018. Because of schedules government shutdown, and weather it was tough finally getting together to look at my job. I kept calling because of good Home Advisor reviews. Despite a lot of rain and mud Victor and Jose raised the shed and lowered it onto 16” x 16” footer slabs upon which sat standard cinder blocks and termite guards. I had serious low spots in the yard that required 30 cu yd of sand they distributed by wheelbarrow. The whole job took 4 days over most of a week interrupted by rain. They needed to pump out the water that kept accumulating. They reconnected the electricity, adapted and re-fastened the hurricane anchors and installed a plastic lattice skirt to keep animals from underneath. It was a good job under trying circumstances. We bought or made them lunch and I tipped upon completion. Good work requires good treatment. I am quite happy with the outcome."

"Lawrence completely transformed our laundry room into something we never even imagined! He turned it into a full walk-in space with a dog bath, a folding station with gorgeous cypress countertops, and stunning floating shelves. The large farmhouse sink is not only beautiful but super functional. Everything feels custom, modern, and so well thought out. Lawrence was professional, efficient, and really listened to what we wanted. We’re obsessed with how it turned out—he made our laundry room a space we actually love to be in!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The easiest and best way to power your outdoor lights is with the use of outdoor outlets. Most building codes now require exterior outlets in homes, so you likely already have outdoor outlets available to plug into. However, you can have these outlets installed if your space doesn’t currently include them.

According to the National Electrical Code (NEC), GFCI outlets should be installed in wet or damp locations where they might be splashed with water or other liquids. This is to protect against ground faults, which are more common around water. Specific areas that require GFCI outlets include kitchens (especially near counters), bathrooms, laundry rooms, basements, garages, and all outdoor receptacles. Depending on local electrical codes, you may need at least one GFCI outlet in these rooms, or every outlet in the area may need to be GFCI protected.

If there isn’t a C-wire on your thermostat, you can repurpose the G-wire. The G-wire controls the fan independently of the other controls on your thermostat, so the fan-only function won’t work if you decide to go this route.

Although homeowners can turn off a breaker, it’s vital to follow safety precautions when doing so to prevent serious and potentially fatal injuries. For instance, you want to ensure there is no water on the floor when you touch the breaker and wear protective gear such as safety glasses. Anytime you deal with anything electrical, it’s always best to be as safe as possible.

It wouldn’t be abnormal to view all wiring as simply wiring, but wiring has different gauges and can handle different loads. When you’re wiring for 240V, you need wire that is rated at least 240V, but honestly it’s better to spend a little more and just buy 300V wiring. This ensures a margin of safety in case the wiring gets overloaded.
