The Stump Company is a locally owned business bringing 15 years of experience to Southeast Louisiana. Fully Licensed and Insured. Contact us today! We accept Cash, Checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.

"Horrible experience with this owner. I had a custom end table made. Toke him 1 1/2 years to build. Then damaged on deliver in May of 2024. He promised to come back and fix it. It has now been another 15 months and still not fixed. Drawer will not close due to damage and cabinet door below will not open bc drawer is stopping door from opening. I recommend to stay far away from this business. He does great wood work but very unreliable and unprofessional."

Closets questions, answered by experts

You can design your own closet, but it’s usually better to hire a professional to do the work for you. Not only will you get years of design experience to guide you toward the right layout and material choices, but you’ll also only pay slightly more hiring a professional than you would creating your own plans and hiring a carpenter. A high-quality closet designer can provide insight into how to lay out your closet, and they may be able to find you a good deal on the carpentry or complete the work using an affordable, in-house team.

Construction typically takes 2-5 days, depending on the complexity and customization.

You can budget a little less money for how to build a closet with wire shelves than with wood shelves. Some people don’t like the aesthetics that wire shelves provide, though, meaning they’ll gladly spend a little more to add wood shelves to the build. If you decide to buy pre-made wire shelves instead of building custom-sized wood shelves, you’ll be restricted in the closet shelving dimensions you can use.

The differences between a built-in closet and a walk-in aren’t that different from a built-in wardrobe and a walk-in closet. It’s fairly simple—a walk-in closet is a closet you can physically enter, stand in, and walk around in. A built-in (whether wardrobe or closet) is more akin to covered shelves installed into a recess in the wall. Another big difference is walk-in closets almost always have traditional full-size doors, while built-ins either have no doors or use sliding doors.

You can turn an adjacent room into a walking closet by just rearranging the room. This means removing the furniture and adding racks and an island in the center if you have that in your budget. Houses with two bedrooms connected to each other are great options for large walk-in closets that don't require any structural changes or much building whatsoever.
