"Getting a whole house generator is a huge investment so I shopped around and got 4 quotes because of the wide range of cost estimates. Other people said the cost "would be around" an amount, and Brandon gave me a detailed exact price. Had people tell me different things about where I could put the generator. Brandon came out and explained everything and said I could put the generator where I wanted it. His crews (electrical, gas) were professional, appeared to know exactly what they were doing, worked efficiently, and left the job site very clean. Brandon provided everything I wanted--he has a long track record of installing generators, has been in business for many years, offered a 10 yr warranty, offers an annual check-up plan, and made sure I was happy with everything."

"Communication with Mr. Blanchard was great.  When I first spoke with him about the work he told me when he was able to come out.  He said he would call before he came which he did.  He came at the time we set up.  He gave suggestions as to how to fix the problems.  He performed the work in a timely manner.  He was very professional.  He had all parts needed for the job on his truck.  The bill was very reasonable for the work performed.  Thank you very much.  I will definitely call Mr. Blanchard for any future electrical needs. "

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Gretna, homes with raised foundations, dense hardwood framing, or shotgun layouts often make electrical wiring more challenging. Features like vapor barriers, hurricane strapping, and strict flood elevation rules can add complexity. Limited crawl space access or historic construction methods may require specialized tools or techniques. Consider these local building characteristics when planning electrical panel upgrades or new circuit installations.

Helpful?

Your Gretna home is well-suited for electrical upgrades if it’s elevated, built post-1970s, or has modern panel capacity and accessible crawl spaces. If your property is older, on a slab, or has aluminum wiring, plan for extra steps like rewiring or panel upgrades. Start by evaluating your home’s age, structure, and existing electrical system to identify the best approach for safe improvements.

Helpful?

To keep your Gretna home safe, inspect for moisture damage each spring, test GFCI outlets before heavy rain, and check surge protection ahead of hurricane season. In summer, review outdoor wiring and generator setups after storms. Fall is ideal for assessing post-hurricane damage, while winter is best for checking heating system wiring and planning electrical upgrades. This routine helps prevent climate-related electrical hazards.

Helpful?

In Gretna, address electrical wiring issues right away if you spot rusted panels, water intrusion, or flickering lights—especially after storms or before hurricane season. These signs can signal urgent safety risks due to local flood conditions. Upgrades for convenience or aesthetics, like new lighting or smart switches, can wait for drier months, but never postpone repairs that affect home safety or code compliance.

Helpful?

When planning electrical projects in Gretna, consider salt air corrosion, high water tables that impact grounding, and termite activity that can affect wiring. Local permits are required, and demand for contractors rises after storms, which may cause delays. If your home is in a historic district, exterior electrical work may face extra restrictions. Plan ahead for these unique environmental and regulatory factors.
