"Very satisfied with the whole process. They trimmed down one tree and then we had them come back and chop one down. The whole crew was very professional. Seeing 3 generations working together is very inspiring. Thanks again"

"My home insurance company was all up in arms about the limbs of the 100+-year-old live oak in my front yard hanging over my roof . . . like a 100+-year-old live oak tree does. Carl came out to take a look, explained to me why the tree should be left as is (it's actually safer), offered to explain it to my insurance company, and even said if the insurance company insisted, he would refuse the project. He is passionate and knowledgeable about trees (I learned some neat tree facts!) as well as ethical in his approach. I'm delighted to report that the insurance company accepted Carl's viewpoint and have stopped demanding I butcher the tree, so I did not need Ferguson's services. But you better believe I'll be calling Ferguson's for all future tree needs!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Many species, especially when well-established, are not fans of transplantation. You’ll need to decide if you want to risk splashing the cash, understanding that transplantation isn’t always successful. Again, this is where hiring a pro is helpful, as they can give you all the essential info you need to ensure your tree stands a fighting chance.

Maple trees start the growing season by developing small groups of red flowers where the tree's fruit, the samaras, will appear in the coming weeks. Later in spring, the samaras, which many call whirlybirds or similar names, develop into single-winged seed carriers that spin when falling or drifting in the wind.

Ideally, you’ll have a good enough relationship with your neighbors that you can kindly mention this task in regular conversation. However, every neighbor (and neighborhood) is different. Your best bet will always be to ask directly and nicely, offering to contribute to the tree trimming efforts if you’d like. However, if you are bothered by the tree and your neighbor is unwilling to cut it, you can involve the help of the homeowners’ association or local authorities, if applicable.

Professionals use assessments, strategic cuts, specialized equipment, and safety measures to ensure healthy growth or the safe removal of trees or shrubs.

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.
