"Contacted Sunlight Contractors about removing fiberglass insulation underneath my house and installing foam insulation. Ira answered his phone after business hours from home and gave me information. The crew showed up promptly to remove the insulation on Monday and returned on Tuesday to install the foam insulation. Crews were very polite and professional. All work was completed promised and area left clean. Will you again for insulation of our attic."

"This was my first time using Angies List and hiring someone that I did not know. But these guys were fantastic. They did great work, at a reasonable price. And were fast to respond and get it done. Also, now that our dryer vent is clean, the dryer works much much better."

"Jonathan did an energy audit first and showed us what needed to be done. He sealed the attic and blew in 49R insulation. We immediately felt the difference in the house. The workers were very polite and explained everything in detail. I will recommend them to anyone with energy issues."

"Needed vacation home insulation was redone. Rep met on short notice to analyze the issue but did not arrive on time to do the job. The contractor was over an hour late and did not inform us ahead of time. Work was done but I would have expected a cleaner finish (based on pictures that were submitted)."

Small jobs welcome

"AA arrived when promised, their price was much better than the other two bids, and the house is much cooler than before. After a hurricane knocked down two big trees that shaded my house we needed to upgrade the insulation. AA is experienced, completed the job on time, and made us much more comfortable."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Wet-sanding and dry-sanding each have pros and cons. Dry-sanding is less messy, so it’s a good option if you’re trying to minimize dust (for example, if you’re sanding an occupied home or working with particularly dry or dusty drywall mud). However, dry-sanding is quicker because you don’t have to keep rinsing a sponge or wait for it to dry before painting.

Whether a drywall anchor can be reused depends on its material, type, and the method of removal. Plastic anchors, including expansion and self-drilling types, are generally designed for single use as they tend to break or deform upon removal. Metal anchors, such as toggle bolts, are more durable and may be reusable if they are not damaged during extraction. However, with toggle bolts, the toggle piece can fall into the wall cavity when the bolt is removed, making it difficult to retrieve. If an anchor is damaged during removal, for instance by having its head cut off, it cannot be reused regardless of the material.

Choose a drill bit that is the size of the screws of the anchors you will use. You aren’t drilling through metal or concrete—hopefully—so any standard twist, wooden or all-purpose drill bit will work fine. It’s also important to have a screwdriver capable of drilling through the drywall and into the stud. The good news is most available drills, even the older ones, can do this with no issue.

Plaster is a beautiful finish but is labor-intensive to install and remove. It’s vulnerable to cracking and more sensitive to moisture variance than drywall. Installing plaster on a new wall is an expensive process that can take days to weeks, depending on the scope. Removing a plaster wall can also be quite expensive and time-consuming.

Whether you apply the drywall mesh before or after drywall mud depends on the type of patch it is. For self-adhesive patches, you’ll put the patch down first and then coat it with mud. Mesh patches that are not self-adhesive will require you to put mud down first and then press the mesh into it, followed by additional coats of mud.
