Exterior Painting questions, answered by experts

A foam brush or paint pad is the best tool for painting behind a toilet, as it will ensure that you can wedge into the tight space between the wall and tank and it’s less likely to drip and cause a mess than a mini roller. A standard paintbrush is the best option for doing detail work around the pipes.

The largest paint company in the world is Sherwin-Williams®, followed by PPG Paints®. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the only brand worth considering. With a protective top coat, fiberglass door paint will last two or more years. Sometimes, this life span can be even shorter depending on what elements the door is exposed to. Conditions like heavy rain and snowfall don’t usually cause issues, but high temperatures and direct sunlight can quickly lead to cracking and bubbling.

Yes, options with low VOC and sustainable ingredients ensure healthier choices.

Like any paint, the magnetic type has a shelf life. Depending on the formula and manufacturer, the paint can last between 12 months and 5 years for an unopened can. But even magnetic paint with a five-year shelf life can go bad sooner, depending on the storage location and temperature. Opening the tin and improperly resealing it also expedites expiration.
