"FCI prepped the concrete slab of my basement floor. The previous owner had painted part of the basement and used glue to adhere carpet to the remaining part. FCI was able to remove all the glue and prep my floor so it was ready for the luxury vinyl plank flooring. The also had to use a leveling compound to fix so of the outer edges.

Once all the prep work was done, which took less than a day, they started installing the luxury vinyl plank flooring. They used an adhesive to adhere the flooring to the concrete per installation instructions from the manufacturer. Once they finished, the results speak for themselves...it looks like a million dollars and is as smooth as glass!

Jonathan explained the process perfectly and helped to guide me in the right direction. I had planned to install a more expensive flooring option but after hearing the pros and cons, I realized that the luxury vinyl plank was the right option for my house and I could not be happier with the results and the price!"

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

Many DIYers and pros start installing flooring in the middle of a room to ensure a balanced, symmetrical layout, especially when using tiles or planks. This process is particularly helpful in odd-shaped rooms because it allows you to create a centerline from which to work. Beginning in the center will enable you to work toward the edges so the final layout feels intentional and centered, even if the walls aren’t perfectly square.

It’s a good idea to install a rug pad under the carpet for your stairs. To make the pad fit, you’ll need to cut one section for each stair tread that’s about one inch narrower than the stair runner so that it won’t be visible once the carpet is installed on top.

There could be several reasons why your carpet padding has adhered to the floor. Some of the most common reasons include:

  • There was intentional gluing or stapling to the surface.

  • The polyurethane and floor bonded over years of wear.

  • Pet urine, spills, or other substances leaked through the carpet and created a sticky surface.

If the carpeting in the home has not been changed in a long time, clearing off the padding underneath could be difficult. Pet urine can wreak havoc on carpeting and the flooring underneath. If you plan to reinstall carpeting, remember to use proper cleaning techniques for removing pet urine odors to prevent future problems.

Avoid placing carpet in the bathroom or the kitchen. After all, moisture is no friend to carpeting. Beyond that, it’s down to personal preference. Some people dislike when a garage or basement features carpet, but others enjoy it.

A transition piece between carpet stairs and wood flooring isn't always necessary. A transition piece separates two types of flooring in between rooms and areas, like carpet and vinyl. Because the carpet on the stairs tucks into the seam, you can’t see the fringes, and there is no need to hide anything. However, you can use a stair cap if your stairs have a nose.
