He and his crew came in and removed everything thing in the attic, sanitized, sealed everything from the inside and then did brand new insulation. He checked on us over the next month and came back 2 more times to check the status of our attic trap. He was very fast, fair and professional. I would hire his company again."

The roofing material, especially asphalt shingles, will not last as long as it should (about half of its manufacture life) if the attic is not ventilated. Just like when you’re shingling a roof, you can install felt underlayment under a metal roof, but a synthetic underlayment like adhered ice and water shield is the best option. These use adhesives rather than mechanical fasteners, so you have fewer penetrations going through your roof deck and a lower risk of leaks. Ice and water shield is also easier to install because you don’t need additional tools or fasteners to attach it to the roof deck.

Depending on the condition of your roof, you may be able to add flashing to it. If you’re looking for a way to maintain its integrity while saving some money, you should ask a roofing pro if this is an option. Keep in mind that if your roof is in poor shape, a full replacement may be necessary before flashing is installed.
