"I highly recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. They cam within a day of when I called, assessed and fixed one problem, installed a new water heater the same day, and returned the next day to install new pipes above the water heater. The plumbers were polite, professional, and explained clearly what they were doing. Pricing was very reasonable and I also have a yearly service contract. Office personnel were also friendly and knowledgeable. Will only use them from now on."

"Great! The only "hitch" was that their schedule was backed up and Craig asked me if I would be okay with being pushed back a week, to which I replied it was. Chris and Denny showed up at 8:30 on the Monday and had the old acrylic bath/shower unit and floor tile ripped out by 11:00. I had already removed the toilet and old vanity. They put down new sub-floor and installed a new alcove bat tub. Everything just seemed to go so smoothly. They tiled the bath surround and laid new floor tile; a plumber came in to install the new fittings. They were finished and out of there by mid-afternoon Thursday, and that was after wrestling a heavy vanity up the stairs for me, which I was to install as well as the new toilet. A really great job! I would fully recommend Creative Tile for any bathroom remodel. And if you are lucky enough to get Chris and Denny as your crew, then all the better, though I would be that Creative Tile would only use the best employees."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Yes, plumbing in a mobile or manufactured home is different from that in a traditional home. The most significant differences relate to the design, location, and materials used. In a standard home, plumbing pipes typically run through the walls. In a mobile home, which is not a permanent structure, the pipes are often smaller and routed through the floor or a crawl space underneath the home. Additionally, the building codes, permits, and materials used for mobile home plumbing can differ from those for standard homes. For specific details about the design and installation of your mobile home's plumbing, it's best to consult a certified professional plumber with experience in this area.

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to move wastewater and solid waste to the municipal sewer or septic tank. However, for fixtures located below grade (e.g., in a basement), gravity is not sufficient.

The purpose of a sewage ejector pump is to actively pump this wastewater and solid waste upward into the main sewer line. Without an ejector pump in this situation, wastewater would have no way to exit and would eventually back up, causing a sewage overflow or flooding in your basement. If all of your home's plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity can handle the drainage, and an ejector pump is not needed.

A water softener is a worthwhile investment if you live in an area with hard water. While hard water is safe to drink, it contains minerals like calcium and magnesium that can cause significant problems over time. These minerals build up inside pipes, reducing water flow and eventually corroding the plumbing system, which can lead to leaks and a shortened lifespan. Hard water also damages fixtures and appliances, potentially resulting in costly repairs. Additionally, it makes soaps and detergents less effective, meaning you'll use more product to get things clean. By installing a water softener, you can prevent these issues. The initial investment is often recouped through long-term savings, including lower energy bills, reduced appliance and plumbing maintenance, and spending less on soap and cleaning supplies. Other benefits include cleaner linens, dishes, and clothing, as well as softer water that is gentler on your skin and hair. In some areas, a water softener can also increase your home's value, making it a valuable long-term investment.

It’s a good time to replace your outdoor faucet at the first sign of a leak that doesn't stop when the knob is turned off. Also, you may want to replace your faucet if there is a great deal of lime build-up, the surface behind the faucet is deteriorating, or the faucet itself is pulling away from the wall. The job doesn’t take more than a few hours and can save you money in the long -run.

If your shower is leaking when it’s off, it may not be an immediate cause for concern. After a shower, some water is left in the showerhead and will drip out after you turn the shower off. Other reasons include potential pressure or condensation in the pipes or thermal contraction when the pipes cool down after a hot shower. However, if the showerhead leaks continuously, call a pro to take a look.
