"wo old 80ft Elms taken out and stump removed, one same age/size Oak trimmed, one same age/size Sycamore trimmed. overgrown side yard cleared, including 2 hackberries, one large and one small mulberry, and several small to medium sapling, large honeysuckle and various shrubs. took 3 days. cleaned up everything, including the yard and decorative stones. very knowledgable staff. good onsight customer service, worked around obstacles, answered questions. staff work well as team. Michael the owner came the same week I called for a quote, answered my questions and gave a very detailed quote. The only not perfect was it sometime took morn than 24 hours to get a response from a call. but the always got back with me within a few days. The also were booked so couldn't get to my job for a month, which was fine with me"

His crew arrived on time with all of the equipment that was needed to do the job. My trees were trimmed to the height that I wanted to an equal height on all trees. The cuttings were removed immediately and sent through a chipper/shredder. The site was clean and ready for mowing when they were finished. You can use the formula mentioned earlier to calculate the depth of tree roots. Each inch of width of a tree trunk translates to six inches of depth within the root system. Large trees extend anywhere from 2 to 6 feet into the ground, with some magnificent specimens going even deeper.

Make sure the tree roots soak around a day before you dig the tree up for the transplant. Keep the roots wet while the tree is above ground. After the transplant is finished, provide consistent water every day for the first month or so. You don’t want to overwater the tree, but you do want to keep the roots wet so they can thrive in their new environment.

Since overwatering can harm mature trees just as much as a lack of water, it’s important to know the signs of an overwatered tree. If your tree’s leaves are yellowing, wilting, or dropping leaves, it’s likely that you’re overwatering. Other common signs include rotting, fungi, soggy soil, soft or peeling bark, falling leaves, and brittle roots. 

If you realize that you’ve been overwatering your mature tree, stop watering and give the soil time to dry out. Then moving forward, increase time between watering sessions. 

It’s not as common for Dutch elm disease to affect other types of trees, especially if the surrounding trees aren’t elms. However, it is possible for DED to spread to other trees, particularly in northern states, like Minnesota. In fact, it’s a good idea to use geography to identify wood and determine which types of trees are in your yard. 

Unfortunately, the complex and shallow root system of elm trees makes surrounding elm trees particularly vulnerable to DED. Early discovery is key!
