I sent a message to Carnival Custom Painting to request a bid. (The closet has been completely caulked and 90% of the nail holes filled. We're looking to have it primed and spray painted white. We would pay for materials.) I sent the request for an estimate on Sunday afternoon. Didn't hear back from Ron until Wednesday. When he did reach out, he said the earliest he could come out was at 3PM the following Tuesday. (That puts us about a week and a half out from my initial request for a bid.) Around 2:50 on Tuesday, Ron called to tell me he was 45 minutes away, i.e. 30 minutes late. Not a deal breaker, but also not impressive. Despite all of that, I was still optimistic that the estimate would be on target and we could get started. No way. The estimate is nearly twice what it should be, according to my father in law, who's been a builder for 30+ years. I'm now reaching out to other vendors for bids, hoping they're more responsive, punctual and reasonable. We bought a house on 6-21-12 (fri) and on Sat, while looking under the house in the crawl space because there was a couple of A/C duct lines that came loose, we noticed that under the master bedroom the ground was wet. So we called Dan and he came out and diagnosed that the sewer line was broken in two different spots, one being right under the house, (water came bubbling up when you ran the sink/flushed toilet) and was also broke back by the main which was probably due to tree roots by the main as there is a large tree there. So we ended up having him replace the whole line that way we shouldn't have to mess with it for 20+yrs. While he was here I was under the house looking around and had him also replace all the drains to the kitchen and the master bathroom as they were in very poor condition. He also replaced two toilets for us that were taller and were a much more efficient design over the 1970's versions that were in there. The old ones worked but needed the guts rebuilt and were also very low to the floor so we wanted new ones that were taller anyway. He also installed a water line for my fridge so it would make ice. He put a box with a valve in the wall so I can turn it off without having to crawl under cabinets or anything. We also had him move the drain and Hot/Cold lines for the Washer and Dryer from the master bath closet to the back room. All the drains were done in PVC and the water feed lines were done in PEX and everything was strapped up properly. He was very nice to work with and very professional, and in my opinion for all the work that was done, very very reasonable.UPDATE: Not quite 1 month after the sewer line got replaced, my water main line into my house broke, (I know, how lucky can 1 fellow get). I called Dan and he came right out and I was upset as I just spent all the money we had saved up for fixing probs in the house on the sewer and plumbing he done earlier in the month. So he worked with us and cut us a good deal and dug a trench and routed it to be more direct to the house and got everything hooked up and running. There must have been a leak in it when we bought the house as the water pressure was low coming out of the faucets but we thought it was bad plumbing from the previous owner as there is a mixture of different pipes and different sizes all hooked up to feed water throughout the house. But after Dan hooked up the new line our water pressure doubled. We still need to have the rest of the house re-plumbed for all the water feeds to the faucets, tubs, showers, but that will have to wait for now. He ran the new line with PEX plus put in a shut off valve for me right inside the crawl space where I can get to it easily if I have to shut the water off to the whole house. He gives a 1yr warranty on all his work also. Dan also ended up fixing the sidewalk as the slab that we picked up to move as we couldn't go under it broke when we picked it up to put it back, so he rounded up concrete, which is hard in this town after 6:00pm and i had a couple 2X4's and he built the form and poured in the concrete at no extra cost to me for the materials or the extra time. He is a great man who cares, as he knew we were really tight for money after just having all the work done the previous month. I dont want to leave out his helper Dwayne (sp) he did a very good job of helping and getting things done also, he is also a very nice fellow. Dwayne even ran 3 network cables under the house to where I needed them for me since he was working under there anyway, but he wasn't working on that side of the house and he did have to crawl over to the other side to do it and it was very much appreciated, plus he dug up a small tree stump since they had the back hoe here and had some spare time and also dug up a couple of Yucca plants for me that I didn't like where they were...... When I get some more money saved up, I will definitely be hiring him again to finish running all new water feed lines throughout the house and put in new drains in the front bathroom also."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ks/cherryvale/action-plumbing-reviews-7461640.htm"},"position":9},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"AA Construction & Remodeling L.L.C.","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"KS","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Karen B."},"reviewBody":"We started off by purchasing the Angies Big Deal from AA Contruction, for a remodeled kitchen. We knew going in that the space we had was twice the size of the specifications in the coupon deal, and that we wanted several upgrades, which would increase cost. After consulting with Allan, who was understanding about our desire to delay starting work due to unexpected family illness, we considered and decided to expand the project further, to include a movable island work surface and to upgrade the countertops to quartz to suit our taste, as well as to vastly improve our entire home by partially removing the short wall between the living room and the kitchen. Allan worked with us to facilitate a move of a freestanding freezer from our kitchen to the garage. We chose to match the new ceilings in the kitchen, by having them scrape and retexture the ceilings in the living room and hallway, which adjoined the kitchen. We further enhanced our homes' new look with new interior doors, which they installed for us and then we chose to paint them ourselves. (A great thing for us as it is something we can do and wanted to do.) They retextured and repaired a couple of cracks in the living room where our house had settled, and then we painted the living room and hallway and entryway. They also installed a pendant light in our entryway. Our experience was really good. Allan initially, and as situations arose, offered options for design solutions in our kitchen, then when we caught our own vision he was accommodating to our desires, including the choice of countertop material and color, paint choice, type and size of backsplash tile. This changed the pricing in some cases, as was necessary and fair. Though we had never before taken on a project of this size, we were comfortable from the very early days with Allan and Chris being in our home. Because my husband was out of town on business for days at a time during the project, they both ended up having to discuss details with me, throughout the project. I could imagine types of people that would have made that unpleasant, uncomfortable, or unbearable, but these are good, hardworking guys who care about the details and are good people to have around. The subcontractors also were good, including the countertop installers and Dave, who installed the beautiful hardwood floors. We anticipate having Allan and Chris do other remodeling projects for us in the future. We highly recommend AA."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ks/leavenworth/aa-construction-and-remodeling-llc-reviews-2086616.htm"},"position":10}]}

I had some contractors who disappeared on me and left my kitchen hanging for almost 2 months. Midwest PRO was recommended by my neighbor and they took over the project and found out a lot of things they did wrong. They did not charge me for fixing those issues as I made them aware of my...
Very professional and punctual. They came to our house to meet with us and design the cabinets. Very good work. Scott was a delight to work with. He was very helpful and went above and beyond in the whole kitchen remodel process.

The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

The best time of year to remodel your home is late winter and early spring when fewer homeowners are thinking about projects and pros are more available. Also consider the type of remodel you want and plan ahead as much as possible. For example, the summer is a great time of year to update your fireplace, but winter is a better option for fixing foundations and building room additions.
