"Jim for Donhohues Lightning Rods installed the lightning rod system in my home. When the work was done I was very happy as their installer came as per promised time, and perform the work. Before giving them the work Jim completely sold me their work ethics, quality, and service. There was a minor issue and his team took complete ownership of this issue and talked to me in detail. They provide a very good explanation to satisfy me. I am a happy customer."

"Kenny was the tech performing the electrical work. He arrived when they said he would and was careful not to track the outdoors into the house (put on booties). He was well organized and I did not have any issues tripping over him or his tools. Now for the not so happy part. I had bought the electrical switches and outlets for the job. Four were installed at approx $200. You should be able to install at least three of these in an hour so if Coleman is charging $25 per outlet that seems a little high. (But hey, I grew up when gas was 35 cents a gallon). When I went to clean up downstairs I noticed one of the newly installed ceiling light panels in the suspended ceiling had a **hot** spot along one edge. I lifted a panel next to the light, pressed down and the problem went away. The metal cross brace on the other side of the panel had been bent downwards and inwards causing sideways pressure to bow the panel upwards causing the hot spot. It was by no means a simple job to remove the old fluorescent fixture and replace it with the new led one, however, it would have been nice to be told what happened. Lastly, the boxes that the led light panels came in were left. I had purchased them so Coleman was under no obligation to remove the packaging. Still, I wish they would have offered."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The total cost to install a 120V outlet will depend on the type of outlet you choose, labor costs, and any customizations. Standard 120 volt outlets usually cost $3 to $5 each. But say, for example, you customize your 120V outlets with USB ports, you’ll end up paying a bit more at $13 to $22 per outlet. When it’s all said and done, you can expect to pay around $175 for each new 120V outlet and $125 each for replacement.

An AC disconnect, also known as a switch box or fuse box, is a safety switch that allows the AC’s electrical supply to be turned off from the outside, usually done by a mechanical contractor coming to work on your unit. The box is protected from the weather by a cover or may be designed as a pull-out unit. Your local code determines where the AC disconnect must be mounted, but it's usually close to your outdoor AC unit.

Yes. You can connect your home back-up battery to a generator with its designated charger. Be sure that the output of the generator matches the input requirements for the battery for best results.

No, outdoor outlets are not required to be on a separate circuit. However, you should always defer to local electrical codes when making decisions about how to install your new outlet. An experienced local electrician will be able to inform you of all codes and requirements in place at your home.

The standard voltage for United States power outlets isn’t shared around the world, and neither is the shape of the power connector. This is why you need travel adapters when spending time abroad. Where the United States typically uses 110/120V outlets, outlets in Europe typically use 220/240V. Power outlets can vary in other ways around the world, too. Not everyone uses the 60Hz frequency, for example, and not everyone even uses AC power in outlets. Always do your research when traveling to see what you need.
