This design allows adding more circuits without a larger panel, making it a space-saving solution. According to the National Electrical Code® (NEC®), the electrical code for kitchen outlets states that electrical outlets in a kitchen should be installed no more than 48 inches apart. This ensures that a receptacle is no further away than 24 inches from any place on the countertop. Countertops wider than 12 inches need an outlet on the wall above the countertop.

Christmas lights typically do not need to be grounded like electrical circuits in your home do. However, it's crucial to use outdoor outlets equipped with ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) for added safety. GFCIs can help protect against electrical shocks and are recommended for outdoor electrical connections when using Christmas lights.

Outlets with only two slots have no ground connection. That’s more common on very old outlets, which means it’s more likely the outlet won’t be polarized. You’ll have to closely examine the slots to see if there’s a size difference indicating polarization.
