Ideally, you would run your pool pump as much as possible. But realistically, you should plan to run your pump strategically so you can save as much money as possible on your electricity bills while also keeping your pool clean.

Most pool owners run their pumps for eight to 12 hours a day—not necessarily consecutively. You can opt to run the pump during non-peak hours when electricity is cheaper, which is usually in the evenings and nighttime.

A fiberglass pool lasts up to 30 to 50 years with proper maintenance. For the longest possible lifespan, keep your pool water pH as close to seven as possible. Test your water levels regularly, run your pool filter daily, and avoid draining the pool. Once your pool is 20 to 30 years old, you can prolong the lifespan by refinishing the shell.

Your swimming pool water can become cloudy if there’s too much chlorine. If your pH levels are out of balance, you can start to notice cloudiness. In other words, too much of any one chemical in your pool water can cause it. This is one reason it’s so important to stay on top of keeping your pool clean and getting pool maintenance done.
