"Ryan installed new hardwood floor approximately 15x30, and refinished the rest of our existing hardwood floors (approximately 3 times the size of the new floor). We wanted a slightly different color than we had had,. Ryan stained a small area with different shades so we could choose what we wanted. He communicated with us daily about what had been done, and time estimates of completion. I was initially concerned about existing trim, corners, and major appliances in the way. I am glad to say that these were not a problem for Ryan! He removed all the quarter-round, repainted it, and put it back when it was time to do so. He pulled a toilet, worked around the drain, and replaced it when the floor was completed. The corners and edges look great! The floors are fabulous. The new floor matches the older floor. You wouldnâ t know that the refinished floors were 24 years old - everything looks new! Without reservation, I can recommend Premier Hardwood Floors to anyone considering new or refinishing. Thanks, Ryan!"

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Experts advise that replacing carpeting can bring a 50% to 80% return on investment. However, new carpeting doesn’t necessarily add value to your overall home value. Because flooring value heavily depends on taste, it can be tricky to determine whether new carpet will increase your home sale price. Carpeting tends to be a renovation that increases overall comfort and aesthetics for your home, but it’s not a big factor in value.

No, when done correctly, removing the tile shouldn’t damage the subfloor. However, if there was pre-existing damage to the subfloor from standard use or lack of maintenance, the subfloor may need repairs. For example, if the contractors notice mold growth on the subfloor or an uneven surface, you may need more extensive services before installing new tile.

If you DIY tile removal, remove the tiles one step at a time, individually removing the tile, grout, and mortar to prevent unnecessarily damaging the subfloor. Depending on the age of your home, consider having a professional inspect the subfloor to ensure it’s in good enough condition to lay new tile.

Installing carpet over carpet may negatively impact the resale value of your home. While it offers a quick fix, potential buyers may view it as a temporary solution rather than a long-term investment in quality flooring. Properly installed and maintained flooring adds value to a home, so removing the existing carpet and installing new flooring may be a better option to attract prospective buyers and maximize resale value.

Like any other type of flooring, you will need to keep up with regular maintenance on your epoxy floors to keep them in the best shape possible; however, it is not like hardwood floors inside a house, which require special care and more consistent maintenance.

Just make sure you use the right cleaning tools and solutions. Avoid using harsh tools like scrub brushes or hard-bristled brooms. You should also skip cleaners that are highly acidic, including white vinegar.

It’s possible to reuse household materials to cover floors, but they won’t provide the same level of protection as dedicated materials. They’re also more difficult to tape down and more prone to slipping and bunching up—and any dirt or debris on them could scratch or stain your floors. That being said, extra materials like these can be useful for protecting the sides of furniture and placing in areas that could use added protection.
