"Not what I expected from a floor specialist. To begin, they left all the sanding dust on the stairscase. I emptied the vacuum 3-4 times before I had it all picked up. Next there were spots where there is too much adhesive left and looks like clumps of hot glue were left behind. Next most of the area under the rails is rough and feels like sand paper. Next, there are several spots where the floor was not even stained before sealing. The most ovious spot was near the entrance door in a very visible spot. Over a month, several messages and calls later he finally came out to "fix" the unstained spot. Now it looks like a pet stain and looks even worse. I reached back out to him and its been over a month and again, no answer. My only choice at this point is to cover up the area with a piece of furniture so its not seen. Attention to detail and ensuring all the floor was actually stained before sealing would have made the difference. I am very disappointed."

Hardwood Flooring questions, answered by experts

You may be wondering, how long does carpet last? It depends on the type. For your Berber carpet, it should last 10 to 15 years with regular cleaning and maintenance. For the longest lifespan possible, you should call in a carpet cleaner for a deep cleaning at least once a year.

Also, you can opt for higher-quality Berber carpet and underlayment which will last longer. And if you have pets, make sure to house-train them and use extra rugs in areas you expect high foot traffic.

Choosing the right carpet involves assessing room usage, desired comfort levels, durability requirements, and stylistic preferences. Carpet fiber types and density should also be considered during the decision-making process.

Not every type of flooring is well suited to a wood stove. However, ceramic or stone tiles are good choices since they are durable, heat-resistant, and easy to clean. Softer flooring options, like carpet, could be damaged by the heat produced by a wood stove—or even create a fire hazard.

The type of flooring you plan to install will determine if it goes in before or after the cabinets. It's okay to swap the order in many cases. However, hardwood floors, sheet materials, and tile often go down before the cabinets go in. Floating floors like laminate or luxury vinyl planking should go down after the cabinets are in place.

Laminate flooring should be stacked horizontally and laid flat to avoid any warping or stress to the boards. To stack it, you should do so in a grid with each row of flooring packages positioned at a 90-degree angle to the layer beneath it. This will provide the best support so the flooring will not sag in the middle.
