"I called CoolVU of Indianapolis to replace film on a portion of the windows in our home. Jim Bostwick returned my call promptly and all contact all future contacts were the same. We contracted for a portion of the windows to be done which was completed very professionally . After we saw what a difference in cutting sun glare we called and Jim replaced the film on the remainder of the windows. I highly recommend CoolVU."

"The installers were great. The salesperson made promises that he did not keep and he missed a window. When the person came to measure he also didn’t catch that I was having all my windows done except one. The windows look great. The response when I notified the co that one window was missed was very fast but added to my cost."

Windows questions, answered by experts

Casement windows are more expensive than some other window types, such as single-hung or double-hung windows. However, casement windows are not the most expensive type of window. Bow and bay window costs tend to be the highest, because they involve multiple large windows that jut out from the exterior of the home.

There are several ways to reduce noise coming through your windows. You can seal gaps around the window frames with acoustic caulk or fresh weatherstripping to reduce noise and air leaks. Installing sound-dampening curtains, thick blinds, or shades can also help deaden sound vibrations. For an additional interior barrier, consider installing an acrylic or plexiglass sheet inside the window, which stifles sound while still allowing for outdoor views. Another strategy is to add external barriers, like dense shrubbery or a sturdy fence, to block neighborhood noises. If these methods are not effective enough, it might be time to install new noise-canceling windows.

Whether you need a permit to install a bay window depends on the project's scope. Replacing an existing bay window typically does not require a permit. However, if you are adding a new bay window, requirements can vary. Adding a new bay window to the front of your house usually requires a building permit, while adding one to the side or back of your house often does not. It's always best to check with your local municipality to confirm the specific requirements in your area. Additionally, if you live in a historic district, you should consult your neighborhood association to ensure your project complies with their construction guidelines. If you're unsure about the process, a professional can provide guidance.

Installing bifold windows can take anywhere from three or four hours to several days. Smaller bifold windows that open vertically and fit inside your existing wall opening should take just a few hours and no longer than a day. Larger bifold windows, especially wider ones, may require structural work before your professional can install the window. The installation could take two to three days, depending on how much work your wall needs.

Bay and bow windows can increase the value of a home. These window styles not only enhance a home's aesthetic appeal by adding architectural interest and increasing natural light but also create additional interior space for seating or decorative purposes. The added functionality and visual appeal can make a home more attractive to potential buyers, potentially leading to a higher resale value. However, the impact on home value depends on various factors, including the overall condition of the home, local real estate market trends, and the quality of the window installation.
