"The installation of my new water heater was done the same day, and the work was done quickly and the install crew was excellent. I spoke with Jeff from Affordable Water Heaters and he was very understanding and knowledgeable, and gave me a great price on a new water heater. I am very pleased with the service, and would highly recommend this business to anyone. I would definitely hire them again, if needed in the future."

"This happened on Sunday. Response was excellent and technician was knowledgeable and very helpful and thorough. His name was Austin. Price I can’t really judge—since I wanted it fixed (replace water heater) immediately I didn’t shop around."

"After talking with the sales rep about tankless v/s a regular tank water heater we decided to go with a 75 gal gas water heater and we have loved it since install. We have abundant hot water, the tank is more a commercial grade heater and we opted for the extended warranty. knowledgeable sales people educated me on the difference in water heaters, provided options in different price points and let me make the decision of what would best fit our families needs."

"The company was prompt and efficient. The water heater that they had quoted us they found out was out of stock and since our current water heater was not functioning they wanted to get us up and going as soon as possible so they arrive as schedule but with a upgraded water heater at no additional charge. They also did some customer re installation of to a more convenient location in the mechanical room in our basement giving us better access to the water heater and the water softener."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

While not all homes require a hot water heater expansion tank, they are necessary in most newer homes and are often mandated by local building codes. Codes typically require an expansion tank if your plumbing system is a 'closed-loop' system, which often includes a backflow preventer or pressure regulator on the main water line. Some municipalities have specific requirements. Installing an expansion tank on a closed system is crucial, as it prevents excess pressure that can damage your water heater and other appliances, potentially shortening their lifespan. However, tankless water heaters do not require an expansion tank.

If you have a tank-type electric water heater, it runs regularly to keep the water at the desired temperature. If you live in a home where you don’t use much hot water, it could seem wasteful to run power to heat water that you’re using infrequently. You could save some power by using a smaller tank, insulating the tank, or lowering the temperature of the water heater.

Water expands when heated and also when freezing. When water is heated, it expands by around 4%. For a full water heater, this is one of the main reasons malfunctions occur—the hot water has nowhere else to go but out. Due to the constant expansion and reduction in volume, it’s recommended (required in most places) that an expansion tank be installed.

Electric water heaters use a high amount of electricity, so they’re best for homeowners who subsidize their electric bill with solar or who live in an area with inexpensive electricity. For others, gas water heaters versus electric water heaters may be the more cost-effective solution, with the added bonus of heating water quickly and efficiently. No matter which you choose, you can lower your water temperature as low as possible to keep costs down.

Yes, most municipalities have codes that require water heaters to have pans. A pan is necessary when a water heater or hot water storage tank is installed in an area where water leakage could cause damage, such as an attic, second floor, or finished basement. Tankless water heaters are not required to have a pan since there is no storage tank.
