First of all, the quote was the most thorough and professionally prepared of the 5 companies we had quote the project.

They were willing to repair some rotten sections of trim where most others said we had to call someone else on our own.  There was an extra charge for that, but that was to be expected.  They also found additional areas of rot that were repaired for an additional charge.  Since they couldn't have foreseen the extra work, the extra charge is reasonable and the price was fair.

The guys were punctual, polite and hard workers.  They washed the house thoroughly.  They spent almost an entire day scraping loose paint, removing loose caulk and re-caulking the seams and joints.  (They used 3 CASES of caulk...I was stunned at the thorough job they did!)

They will only use high grade Sherwin Williams exterior paint called Duration.  I'm a big fan of the interior version of this paint so knowing they would use this paint helped make the decision to go with them.

Their attitude during the quoting process was that they would only take the contract if they could do a top quality job.  if I wanted the cheapest possible price they suggested that I go with someone else who would use lesser quality material.  When I really analyzed the quotes that I received, their price was only about 10% above the average.  I think the extra care in prepping and the quality of the caulk and paint they used will pay off over time.

I'm very happy with the job they did and will definitely use them again.

"They did a perfect job. I wanted it done before Christmas and they did all they could so that this would happen. I work all the time, and all our communication was on the phone. I arranged for him to be able to get into the house and trusted that this would work out, based on all the other reviews that I had read about his perfectionism. It all worked out beautifully. The paper looks wonderful. They were really worked with me to get this done. If you ever need wallpapering, call him!"

"He was great. He was really flexible on scheduling and worked with us on timing. We had them remove our wallpaper in a two rooms. We have since extended our relationship and he is currently removing the rest of our wallpaper and doing some other prep work (mudding, sanding, and priming) prior to us having the whole interior of our home painted. We will likely have him quote on the painting as well."

"It went great.  The walls in one bathroom were in rough shape owing to wallpaper removal efforts on my part.  I thought Pro Decor would just paint the room but they exceeded expectations with the skim coat.  The ceiling in the kitchen had a bad seam where a wall had been removed and badly patched by a contractor.  Pro Decor dug out those bad results and fixed it correctly.  It all looks great and the price was equally great."

"Marcos and his crew did an outstanding job for me.  I'm picky, and was thrilled with the work performed.  I am a repeat customer. (he stained my deck last year)  This time, he removed wallpaper and painted my dining room. This was not an easy task, but the end result is amazing. He also painted my entire interior, fixed all the holes in the walls, and even painted the crown molding. He did a great job with the 2 story foyer and family room.  My interior looks like a brand new home. I highly recommend this provider! Thanks!

"The 2 men arrived on time and completed the work within the time frame. Repaired walls where wallpaper pulled off the drywall paper. Very fair about the time and made sure they had done the work to my satisfaction before they left."

"Jim Spears and his crew demonstrated why they have previously scored so highly on Angie's list. Over the five visits, the crew was always timely and have transformed what was a tired looking living room and dining room into like new wall surfaces. In the 12x24 living room, they removed the old canvas like wall covering, skimmed all the walls and replaced the plaster in a textured ceiling and two wall areas that had completely broken away. The dining room was the real test where ultra thick textured plaster was on all walls. The walls were floated to a smooth finish and sanded. The finished product looks great and Jim and his team were committed to addressing any detailing that needed performed following priming of the walls. If you have an older home, this repair process sure beats replacing all the plaster and lathe but be warned, it's a dusty process so make sure you seal off all areas thoroughly and be prepared to dust for days. Thanks Angie's List and thanks Jim Spears Plastering!"

Wallpaper Removal questions, answered by experts

Yes, many types of peel-and-stick wallpaper can be used in bathrooms, especially those made of vinyl or polyester. However, its success depends heavily on the level of moisture and ventilation. In bathrooms with good ventilation, such as those with fans, it can be a durable option. Peel-and-stick wallpaper may not adhere as well as traditional wallpaper in very humid conditions. For bathrooms that see a lot of moisture, like a kids' bathroom or a full bath with a steamy shower and poor ventilation, even high-quality peel-and-stick wallpaper is likely to peel over time.

If you can already see the texture of the existing wallpaper through the layer of paint, then the texture could also come through the new layer of wallpaper. If that’s the aesthetic you want, then proceed. But if you want a smoother surface, you should either strip off the existing paint and wallpaper or hang a layer of liner paper before proceeding.

You’ll need to wash the walls to remove wallpaper adhesive residue after removal as part of the prep process for painting or rehanging wallpaper. Old adhesive can cause texture issues and prevent paint or wallpaper from adhering properly to the wall’s surface.

Costs depend on wallpaper type, wall condition, labor, and necessary repairs.

Rubbing alcohol may help dissolve stubborn wallpaper adhesive that remains after removal, but be sure to apply it carefully to prevent damaging your walls. Apply a small amount using a cotton swab or pad, then gently scrape or wipe the adhesive away.
