"Kevin Hook came promptly the sane day I linked up with him by phone that morning. He replaced a faulty bathroom faucet , and counseled me about some other plumbing-related questions around my house that do not require work at this time."

"Came in and ran a line to clear a drain/pipe in our bathroom. Was highly effective although it cost $150 and took 10-15 minutes to complete. Work was effective but it was certainly expensive for the work required. Next time I will shop around for a better price before engaging this company."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Tools include pipe wrenches, plungers, and augers. Professionals use advanced equipment for complex issues.

If your toilet won’t stop running, you might have a bad fill valve. This may be the case if the valve has calcium or debris buildup, is cracked, or shows visible signs of wear and tear. A bad fill valve may also be the culprit if you’ve already checked the flapper and chain and adjusted the fill height to no avail.

The normal water level in a toilet bowl is about halfway full. The water should sit above the P trap drain because this creates a seal and suction. When you flush the toilet, the suction keeps sewer gases from entering your house through your toilet. Anytime the water level is higher or lower than half full, you need to make adjustments or replace broken parts.

You definitely can over-tighten toilet tank bolts. Unlike some other materials, porcelain can’t bend or flex, so when you over-tighten a screw into it, it could break against the added pressure. Only tighten them as much as needed to keep them in place and firm; any more and you could risk breaking the porcelain.

If you experience the telltale sign of wax ring failure, which is leaking water, replacing the faulty ring takes one to three hours, depending on accessibility. This is an exacting and time-consuming job, as several components must be removed for the plumber to access the ring. Once replaced, however, wax rings require little to no maintenance and last 30 years or longer.
