"George Dryer was very responsive to my initial call for an estimate to add insulation to my attic.  He gave a very competitive quote and worked with me to set up a day for the work to accommodate my schedule.  The crew arrived exactly on time, were very pleasant, efficient, and professional.  The entire job took approximately 5 hours and the quality of the work was excellent.  I would definitely use Eagle again without hesitation and, if fact, will probably have them come back next year to do some work in my crawl space.

"We contacted Angie’s List for recommendations for Blow-in Insulation to refresh older insulation in our attic. Three companies we recommended to us. Two phoned the next day. I never heard from the third. I told both I was gathering information and would call to schedule an estimate. I called and scheduled two companies, including USA Insulation, to come make an estimate. One company called one minute before scheduled and wanted to re-schedule. Chris from USA was on time. We were pleased with his offer and accepted. He scheduled the installation for the next day. William and his helper arrived, set everything up, and went to work. I checked regularly and photographed the attic. When they were through, they thoroughly cleaned the area. We were quite pleased. Shortly after completion, Michael, a company inspector, arrived to check the work. I would give the company an A+."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Drywall can be toxic to the environment and to humans in some cases. As drywall breaks down in a landfill and comes in contact with other organic chemicals, it can create hydrogen sulfide gas or leach into the groundwater. Additionally, the CDC recommends methods for controlling the inhalation of drywall dust when handled. While the common ingredients of drywall—gypsum, silica, and mica—are naturally occurring, they can cause irritation in some humans.

All plaster walls will crack over time due to normal house settling and expansion and contraction from temperature and moisture changes. Small, thin hairline cracks are generally not serious and are mostly a cosmetic issue. However, larger or more significant cracks can indicate structural problems.

Here's how to tell the difference:

  • Cosmetic Cracks: Cracks that are 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) or thinner are typically cosmetic.

  • Structural Cracks: Cracks wider than 0.5 cm, excessive or deep cracks, multiple cracks in the same area, or cracks that span around corners can signify a structural or foundation issue. Cracks along the joints where walls meet the ceiling also warrant attention.

For cracks wider than 0.5 cm, structural repair is needed. If a crack is 2.5 cm (1 inch) or wider, or if you notice any signs of a structural problem, it is best to contact a plaster repair professional to assess the damage.

If your home’s foundation shifts slightly over time, any seams in the drywall represent the weakest point in the wall, leading to cracks. If your home has significant changes in temperature and humidity, this can cause the drywall to swell and contract slightly, causing a crack at the weak point of the seam. If your drywall installer did a poor job securing the panels to the wall studs, this could cause a weak layout and cracks in the seams.

Whether to repair or replace water-damaged plaster depends on the scale of the damage. For small, limited areas, you can often perform a repair yourself. If you choose to paint over small patches, ensure the surface is completely dry and apply a coat of antifungal primer first to prevent mold growth. However, simply painting or plastering over the damage is only a temporary solution that doesn't address the core problem. For more extensive or long-term damage, the plaster may be compromised, and there is a risk of mold. In these cases, it is recommended to remove the damaged section of plasterboard and replace it. You may consider hiring a professional for the repair, and it's worth noting that water damage is often covered by home insurance.

It’s highly recommended to use studs for a TV mount. The last thing you want is to be watching your favorite show when the TV falls off the wall. Studs are much stronger than drywall and quite a bit stronger than drywall anchors but, if you can’t find the studs or there simply aren’t any where you need them, you can use drywall anchors. It’s extremely important to make sure the anchors are rated for the load of the TV. We recommend using anchors that are rated far beyond the weight of whatever you’re hanging. Our suggestion is metal drywall toggle anchors.
