Kenneth Hurt was recommended to me and was to do the work per phone conversation with his wife on 11/18/2010. I don't know how Roger Hurt became involved and appeared at my home to give me the estimate and do the work.
Two of the three new boards were not attached properly and popped completely off at the bottom of the fence and are hanging at the top. One of the ten new boards cracked from being installed improperly. The ten new boards were attached to a leaning post and leaned considerably. Roger Hurt said the post was too close to the underground utilities to repair/replace. The fence was installed after the home was built and the utilities were in place.
The post attached to the remaining gate was straightened only enough to install the latch. The gate was/is still crooked and leaning with a 2-inch gap. The gate is also extremely uneven at the bottom same as before the work was performed.The post should have been replaced and new hinges put on the gate. There are no underground utilities close to this area of the fence. Roger Hurt told me he would return in the spring to finish straightening the gate when the weather was better, at no additional cost. It was bad weather the day the work was done. I paid him in full and took him at his word.
I called Kenneth Hurt three times in May 2011 and left messages. After contacting the person who recommended him, his wife called me on 5/23/2011. I told her the work was unsatisfactory and that Roger had agreed to return to finish the work. She did agree to stop by with her husband to look at the fence on a given date, but called last minute and cancelled. I told her I would talk to Roger since he owned the business and should be responsible.
I called Roger Hurt on 6/1/2011 to schedule his return. He said the latch was working when he left on 11/22 and denied he had said he would return and finish straightening the gate. I told him about the loose/cracked boards and he said "not any boards I put on". I asked him three times when he would return and said I needed to be home. He said he couldn't tell me when. After telling him I had a picture of the gate, he said he would return the first of next week (6/6/2011) and hung up on me. He was extremeIy defensive, rude and unprofessional. I called back and left my address on his voice mail. I called him again on 6/13 and left another message. He has not returned my call.
It should be noted I told Mr. Hurt when he gave the estimate I needed to be home for them to do the work. They showed up unannounced and began the work without informing me. When I regretfully paid Rogert Hurt in full on 11/22/2010, I wrote a personal check to his business, Midwest Fence which he refused, stating he needed a check made to him personally because that was the name of his business. I have copies of both checks, pictures, phone records and the estimateproposal which I did not sign authorizing them to do the work. If you need copies, I can mail them to you or send them via a separate email.
The work performed by Midwest Fence has to be redone. I have already obtained one estimate from a reputable company. To replace two posts, one gate and screw in loose boards is $380.00. It may not be the cheapest of more estimates I will get, but it is far from the unauthorized, unprofessional, low quality work performed by Midwest Fence, LLC.
Dealing with Midwest Fence, LLC has been the worst, most upsetting experience. I have been patient and feel I have given them opportunity to work with me. I would never recommend them. They were also to tighten any loose fence boards but they did not.
I wish I had known about Angie's list. My lawyer recommended I post this information about Midwest Fence, LLC. Thank You.

It cost $2,550.00. Recently I had several companies submit estimates to extend the fence another 28 feet, but only 4 feet in height. The estimates I received were between 600 and 800 dollars, but these companies could not get the same kind of wood called copper-wood. They could use either treated pine or cedar, not the copper-wood like the 6 foot fence. I then called Mr. Willis to give me an estimate to match the copper-wood, since he did the first fence. He came and gave me an estimate of $1,027.52. Almost half the price of the elaborate 115 foot fence for a plain 28 foot x 4 foot, NOT MENTIONING THAT HE COULD NOT GET THE SAME WOOD. (After being told by me that I wanted exactly the same thing I purchased previously so it would match perfectly.) Wanting to stay with what I already had, and to insure a match, I hired Willis. When the workers arrived to start, they brought scallop topped fence boards, not the dog-eared style that was standing. After telling them that it was the wrong style of fence, they left and came back with the dog-eared style, but it was treated pine not copper-wood. When I told the workers it was the wrong kind of wood, they said copper-wood has not been available for over 4 or 5 years. When hearing that I said that I had the 6 foot fence put up less than 2 years ago. They said Mr. Willis knew they could not get that wood, did he not tell you that? After talking to Mr. Willis on the phone, the wife and I decided to go with the treated pine since that was the closest match available and there was a timing issue involved AND the workers and materials were already on site. I expressed the thought to Willis that the treated pine would be much cheaper than what we had originally ordered. When we got the bill, not one cent had been deducted. I called and made an appointment for Mr. Willis to come and discuss the problem, show him all the mistakes, which were numerous, and adjust the bill. He defended the workers for all the boards in the fence being of varying lengths and not being cut square at the bottom saying that that is the way all fence companies do it. One of the posts (out of four) is out of plumb. The posts are almost 1 inch smaller than the posts in the 6 foot fence, and in one section the fence is almost 6 inches off the ground. The width of each board was also supposed to be 6 inches like the first fence, but then again the workers said treated pine did not come in 6 inch widths. All of this being normal according to Willis. I would never consider hiring Willis Fence Co. again to do any work unless I have no concern about what it looks like. Perhaps a horse lot or an auto salvage yard, but not for my residence. Two Cub Scouts and a drunk could have done a better job. One last thing; the Willis website is still offering the wood they supposedly cannot get to the unsuspecting public, calling it Ozark Timber."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/in/newburgh/willis-fence-co-reviews-6252680.htm"},"position":9}]}

They did not repair, only put a tarp over the hole. Had two holes, would not do anything with the second hole. Said they would give a quote for roof replacement, never received a quote. Did not say on phone they would charge just to look at the problem. Did have a fast response but will not...

FAQs for wrought iron fencing repair projects in Evansville, IN
Yes, most states require a fencing installer to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed fence installer could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification, which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
