"I just had my insulation installed two days ago and so far I’ve noticed a big difference. I hate to say it, but I’m almost looking forward to it getting a little colder so I can really determine the difference. The installers that came to my home were very professional and friendly. They took pictures and they were finished and explained what they did. They even informed me of an issue with my furnace intake pipe, which I really appreciated. Each insulation type has its own R-value, which typically falls between one and five for most pipe insulation. When making a selection, Energy.gov recommends choosing a pipe wrap that is at least one inch thick, and the International Code Council (ICC) suggests choosing a material with an R-value of at least 3.

You do not need to drywall over most types of garage insulation. However, doing so can increase noise reduction, make the space more attractive, and keep children and pets from touching harmful fiberglass insulation. If you’re using cellulose or some other type of blown-in insulation (fiberglass and mineral wool are common), you will need drywall to contain the insulation material.

To cover your HVAC ducts and air vents during construction, use plastic sheets or drop cloths secured with painter's tape. Be sure to cover all supply vents on your floors and walls, as well as the larger HVAC return vent, which is typically on the ceiling. While canvas drop cloths can also be used, they may not catch all the fine dust. It is crucial to shut off your HVAC system or at least the zone where construction is happening. Running the system with vents sealed can put significant strain on the blower motor and air handler.
