I do most of the work myself. I hire helper from HR Connect when needed. I do very little sub-contracting. My customer like that I am doing the work. Like jobs paid on completion or 30 days. I do some special promotion if the job is fairly large. By March I will have were my customers pay by credit card if the wish.

"LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCE! 2/4/25 - Final hit from Champion. My windows DO NOT qualify for the Federal Tax Credit. I failed to do my research. The windows must qualify for your climate zone on the day of installation. This info is on each window sticker. All of which were removed and not offered to me. From Energystar.gov: • On the day the products are installed, check the ENERGY STAR window label to make sure the product you received is certified to meet the performance requirements for your area. The ENERGY STAR label appears on the product next to the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) label on the glass of each product. • Save the ENERGY STAR and NFRC labels (typically combined) from the glass of newly installed windows to take advantage of financial incentives such as tax credits and/or rebates to lower your initial investment costs. Be aware that in the 4 or 5 months it takes to have them installed; they might not qualify. Champion's website shows that they are a "Energy Star Partner". According to energystar.gov - they are not a partner. B Burris Windows (8) C California Deluxe Windows (1) Cascadia Windows Ltd. (6) Coeur d'Alene Window Company (9) Columbia Manufacturing Co. Ltd. I’d emailed customer service and they replied telling me that a message had been sent to the branch and they’d contact me by Friday the 20th. No contact. I stopped by the branch on Thursday the 26th. I was told that my order had not shipped. There was a retooling at the factory that had things backed up. Chris would call me that day with more information. Still no call on Friday night. I’m now 3 payments in on windows that I don’t have. Poor communication from the local branch and their corporate customer service. DO NOT sign a contract. They are 88 orders behind in Evansville. Edit - October 23 install. One window was broken during installation. November 24 inquired about replacement and was told December/early January. Six months and the project is not finished. Problems are less with the local branch and more with Champion’s poor production, communication and no regard for the inconvenience. Proceed with caution and low expectations. January 15 - broken window replaced. The windows are performing well in the single digit weather."

Awnings questions, answered by experts

To make sure the installation process goes smoothly, try asking your pro the following questions:

  • Do you have insurance and a professional license to do the job? Installing a metal or canvas awning into a home’s exterior can be tricky, so ask your pro if they have the correct licensing and insurance to do the work.

  • What was the price of similar jobs in the past? Awning installation costs will vary depending on size, design, location, and other factors. Ask this question to get a feel for the average price range for jobs similar to yours.

  • How long will this project take to complete? Installing an awning is typically not too time-consuming, but hurdles can always present themselves. Gathering an estimated timeline could give you some peace of mind.

  • Will I need to get a building permit? Your local contractor will be well-versed in rules and regulations regarding building permits and other requirements to bring a project up to code. A seasoned pro will be able to furnish this information when discussing the quote.

  • Do you have any references from previous clients? A competent pro should readily hand out contact information for previous clients. Email or call these clients to hear about their overall experience.

Stainless steel and copper are the most durable and will probably last the longest, especially when you compare them to fabric awnings. Steel is the most popular if your budget isn’t a top priority, but some people prefer copper awnings over steel because they are lighter, which makes them easier to install. Aluminum offers a more budget-friendly metal awning option that is still attractive and offers some durability, especially compared to fabric.

Awnings can add value by boosting your home’s curb appeal. An awning with a metal roof may attract potential buyers seeking trendy design materials.

Awnings are either fixed or retractable and can be paired with a variety of cover materials. Fixed awnings are a permanent outdoor feature of a building. These are highly durable and require ongoing maintenance. Once installed, the position of this awning cannot be changed.

Retractable awnings are more popular than fixed awnings since the cover can open and close. This allows homeowners to open and close the awning, depending on the weather. When not in use, it can be closed to allow for extra space.

The main disadvantage of an awning window is that you can’t use it to escape in an emergency. Another disadvantage of awning windows is that they can get dirty quicker than other types of windows that don’t open outward, especially if you keep them open when it’s raining or snowing. You can hire a local window replacement installer to decide if an awning window is right for your home.
