"Servicemaster in Greencastle is excellent. I've used them three times, and each time, they've been responsive and reliable, bringing my rugs back clean and fresh smelling, and willing to go the extra mile (with a smile)."

"I used JL Anderson Heating & Cooling (subcontracted through Lowe's) to install a new Trane HVAC system in my 25 yr. old home. After presenting and explaining to me my options and choosing the system I wanted, Joe set up all the install details. Since the new unit would be about 2 weeks to arrive Joe even offered to charge/fix my old AC just so I could get by. The crew did an excellent job on the install. They were punctual, worked clean/safe and were friendly through the whole install. Once the new unit was running, Joe followed up to walk me through all the instructions, set up the wifi thermostat app on my phone, plus he did ALL the paperwork for warranty and rebates. All I had to do was sign things-a really nice extra! The new system is excellent!!! The house has never felt this comfortable in the summer. I'm already saving money on my cooling bills! I couldn't be happier with the fantastic service JL Anderson Heating and Cooling provided. I highly recommend them!"

"Everything went very well.  Job well done. Very detailed oriented. Very clean and  work done in a very timely manner.  I had estimates for a new furnace only and the cost was going to be around $4,500.00.  That did not include anything done on the air conditioner or new gas line.  I have not had any problems with my new system.  He installed another furnace for me at a rental property. And everything went very well and also saved me a lot of money."

"Ricky did a wonderful job on the install and gave a very fair price for the job. It is refreshing to know that there are still honest contractors that will quote a fair price and then stick with that price through the end. When all the other so called "reputable" company's in the Rockville area were charging between 6 and 8 thousand dollar to do the job RL Norman did a great install for less than half the lowest other estimate. Thank you Ricky for a great job well done."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Professional HVAC installation requires licensed expertise in several areas, including electrical- and plumbing-related work. An HVAC team must know how to safely handle regulated refrigerant chemicals and the gas, oil, or propane used in furnaces and boilers. A proper HVAC installation protects your home from energy loss, fires, and even carbon monoxide leaks.

No. Evaporator coils are designed to work with specific refrigerant types, and they are rated by what kinds of refrigerant they use. It’s indicated with an “R” code. It’s important to match your evaporator coil and refrigerant or your system will not work properly. An AC technician can tell you what type of refrigerant your system needs and what evaporator coils will work with it.

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, or ASHRAE, sets the standard guidelines for air changes per hour in homes and businesses. The International Residential Code, or IRC, also sets ACH requirements for residences and bases those requirements off of ASHRAE standards plus climate specifics related to your location.

Dirty filters are almost always the cause of poor airflow, so they should be regularly cleaned and then replaced as needed. The fan blades can also get dirty, so they should be cleaned when the unit is turned off. Make sure that the outdoor area around the back of the unit is unobstructed. Trees, shrubs, trash, and other objects could be too close to your unit.

There are many signs of a bad AC fan motor, including if the fan blades don’t spin when the AC kicks on or if they keep spinning when the AC is off. The AC fan cools down the condenser coil, so a faulty motor can also cause the system to overheat. Unusual noises in the exterior AC unit, including grinding or rattling sounds, may also be a sign that the AC fan motor is worn out.
