After obtaining a couple of estimates, I chose Carlson's because of the positive reviews on Angie's List, and their excellent price estimate. When the work was done, it was thorough and professional. They were able to disconnect our chain link fence to get into the yard, then fix it up again at completion. Cleanup was very good.
The main reason for the poor rating: timing. It took only 2 days after initial contact to get an estimate on the job, but then it took OVER THREE AND A HALF MONTHS for them to actually come out and complete the work. Not only that, but they never contacted me during that entire time. Not once. I contacted them every couple of weeks, and got the same answer: that they were swamped with "emergencies," they couldn't tell me exactly where I stood on their list, and the job would be done "some time next week." The only reason I didn't seek out another service was that the tree was not in danger of falling down, and their price was great.
After completion of the work, then they contacted me within a few hours - to ask for immediate payment. I asked them to send a bill, and I could mail them a check; their response was that they were "running short" that week, so they would send someone around to my house to collect.
The excellent work quality and price could not make up for the severe lack of communication and professionalism in scheduling and billing. If you decide to go with Carlson's because of the price, be sure to pin them down to an exact date by which work should be complete; otherwise, you might get strung along for the entire summer too.

It was an easy job that they completed quickly. Really friendly too. They even shoveled my walkway for me!
