My husband and I removed old wallpaper in the kitchen with a steamer.  We got all the wallpaper down, but it left the walls a mess.  I'm also in the process of painting the whole house, and there some rooms that are difficult for me to do myself.  The walls in the stairwells are two stories tall and the master bath and bedroom have cathedral ceilings.

We found Danny on Angie's List and called for an estimate.  He showed up for the appointment on time, he was thorough in his estimate, polite and interested in the project.  He gave us a good deal even worked with my schedule to get the project booked right away.

Danny and his team showed up at 8:00, explained the plan for the day, and worked until 6:00.  The next day, a huge team showed up before 8:00 and worked all day until around 7:00.  The project was estimated to take four days to complete and they got it done in two, which gave me two days of vacation back!

The job looked perfect.  Not a drop out of place on anything.  This was a big concern  for me because we just had all new hard wood floors put in and I didn't want any paint mishaps to damage the floors.  They were mindful of the furniture and electronics and very careful with the floors.  Hi team was very polite and hardworking.  They spent the last hour of each day cleaning up so I had very little to do after everything was done.

Danny and his brother checked in with me during the project to ask questions about how we wanted something done, to ask for feedback, to check on the progress, etc.  He inspected the job himself as the team was finishing up and even called later in the week to see if we were happy.

Danny and his team did a wonderful job.  It was a good price on a big project (drywall repair - yuck!), and they did it quickly and perfectly.  They were punctual and  polite.  I would recommend them to anyone and we will certainly end up using them again in the future!

Small jobs welcome

I refinish and reface kitchen cabinets with over 12 years of experience. I keep my schedule open so I'm always available and because I work alone, my prices are very reasonable. I also add new cabinets. I can design your new kitchen cabinets with all the added features you choose, or just add the new island and pantry cabinets you're wanting and finish everything in your kitchen to match. New cabinets can be matched to existing ones with attention to the details of the new doors and drawers. Pull-outs are very popular and make base cabinets seem bigger. Replacement cabinets are available in stock and custom styles. Refacing existing cabinets with new doors and drawer fronts is very popular, and homeowners can choose the details of their new cabinets with me during our kitchen design consultation. Shaker style has been trending for a decade or more and it's what I do the most of when I reface. Refacing takes a little longer than refinishing and I do more refinishing than refacing. You can use any colors you choose. Most refinishing takes me a couple of days in the kitchen and I recommend Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane. Kitchen cabinets are always satin sheen. I don't do anything like countertops or backsplash. I specialize in kitchen cabinets. I often have to make minor changes and repairs to the kitchen cabinets when I refinish or reface them. I can also add crown molding and other trim to the kitchen cabinets. My phone is full of pictures of kitchen cabinet projects so please give me a call and text me pictures of your kitchen cabinets. My name is Jim and my phone number is (317)531-7973

"It went great.  The walls in one bathroom were in rough shape owing to wallpaper removal efforts on my part.  I thought Pro Decor would just paint the room but they exceeded expectations with the skim coat.  The ceiling in the kitchen had a bad seam where a wall had been removed and badly patched by a contractor.  Pro Decor dug out those bad results and fixed it correctly.  It all looks great and the price was equally great."

"His price was good and he worked very quickly with no mess.  He is very good at painting.  We actually moved the furniture away from the walls before he arrived and discovered that someone had spilled something down one wall and there were numerous holes from pictures so we called to confirm whether he would prep or whether we needed to prep and clean the wall.  We were told that they would handle the prep.  After it was painted we discovered that he had painted over the spill so it shows thru the paint, the shape not the color.  I would use him again, as long as I discussed each thing in detail and supervised the work more closely.  I did ask about painting the baseboards and molding after he arrived and he did those as well for an excellent price and as I said, he does work quickly.

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

No, you don’t always have to remove old wallpaper before applying a new layer. However, you should pull off the existing wallpaper if it’s cracked, peeling, or in poor condition. We’d also recommend against putting wallpaper over textured or dark-colored wallpaper because the old layer may be visible through the new one. In addition, if you try to hang new wallpaper over vinyl-coated wallpaper, the adhesive might not stick properly.

Yes, many types of peel-and-stick wallpaper can be used in bathrooms, especially those made of vinyl or polyester. However, its success depends heavily on the level of moisture and ventilation. In bathrooms with good ventilation, such as those with fans, it can be a durable option. Peel-and-stick wallpaper may not adhere as well as traditional wallpaper in very humid conditions. For bathrooms that see a lot of moisture, like a kids' bathroom or a full bath with a steamy shower and poor ventilation, even high-quality peel-and-stick wallpaper is likely to peel over time.

Painting over wallpaper is an efficient way to cover it if it’s in decent shape. Before painting over wallpaper, make sure the surface is clean and smooth. You may have to remove minor problem areas, such as lifted seams or small peels, with a sheetrock knife or putty knife. Add a latex- or oil-based primer to keep moisture at bay before painting. You’ll likely need two coats of paint to cover the area.

When comparing peel-and-stick and traditional wallpaper, the better choice depends on your specific needs and space. Peel-and-stick wallpaper is more budget-friendly and easier to DIY install. On the other hand, traditional wallpaper lasts much longer and holds up better in a wider variety of spaces, including areas with moisture like kitchens and bathrooms.

Once again, contact with moisture is the culprit here, though water-resistant varieties of wallpaper are less likely to become wet and develop mold. Using a high-quality exhaust fan or dehumidifier and leaving the doors or windows cracked after bathing will keep this issue at bay.
