26 years of experience

- 26 years in business, nearly the entire time listed with Angi (Angie's List). - A core crew of skilled and well-equipped craftsmen, each having decades of experience in their specialties and with Classy Craftsmen. - Mostly recurring business and referrals, with many loyal customers going back decades and now even including multiple-generations. - Excellent communication, including well-written thorough presentation of our intentions with drawings and details beyond what customers are accustomed to seeing from other contractors. - Friendly and professional crew. - Solid work ethic, and completion of tasks in timely manner per commitments offered in writing.

"Really creepy guy. Would never recommend him to anyone or feel safe with him near my home."

"Fantastic experience. Showed up on time and completed the job in a matter of hours. The new stairs look great and feel extremely sturdy. Was professional and courteous. Even swept the basement when done!"

"Very pleased with the work performed by Duff Carpentry. Although they do primarily finish carpentry, they agreed to construct the rough framing for my basement refinishing project. Other companies wanted to build simple framing but I was looking for unique touches such as arched soffets and several; 45 degree walls. It also included adding a landing and 90 degree turn to the staircase. I was impressed with the care they took to ensure walls were square and plumb. The drywall installer was impressed with attention paid to solid nailing surfaces. The building inspector approved of all aspects including the fire-blocking. The team was a pleasure to work with."

Cabinet Making questions, answered by experts

You can install a range hood and use the vent to protect your kitchen cabinets from heat and steam from the stovetop. For added heat protection, homeowners can install metal heat shields to exposed sections of the cabinets. It is also essential to keep cabinet surfaces clean by removing any grease buildup that can cause a fire.

Apply a sealant to your cabinets to repel water and moisture. This will help prevent further water damage from developing, such as mold and rotting wood. Lacquer, polyurethane, and varnish are commonly used sealants with waterproofing abilities. Brush them onto your cabinets and follow the manufacturer's instructions on drying time, which can take up to several hours.

If your kitchen cabinets don't have screws holding them together or holding them to the wall, an adhesive is likely doing the work of keeping them in place. To remove cabinets that stay in place with adhesive, use a pry bar to loosen them from each other and the wall. Have a partner support the cabinet's weight as you work if it's a wall unit. Some wall repair may be necessary afterward.

Most cabinets need two to three coats of paint, though the exact number depends on several factors. Use one or two coats of primer and one to three coats of paint. Thick, high-quality paint requires fewer coats, as does paint applied over existing paint that's in good condition. However, if painting a lighter color over an existing dark color, you'll need more coats.

While white is always an in-demand kitchen cabinet color, earth tones are now popular for kitchen cabinets. Homeowners are looking to bring in a touch of the outdoors inside with earthy tones, such as beige, navy blue, forest green, and blush. Sherwin-Williams 2023 color of the year is Redend Point—a mixture of pink, clay, gray, and brown, invoking warmth, calm, and relaxation.
