"She was right around the corner from where I was working so I went right over. It's a big kitchen and she insisted that I sprayed out everything including the fixed cabinets. What a difference! Love it!"
"Their cabinets had already been refinished once and so I had to correct some things from that. Since the refinishing was over an already darker restain they choose to go with a solid color and whites and lights are the most popular."
"They were [Member Information Removed] the middle of fixing up their new home and let me refinish the golden oak cabinets. They have just adopted from a family crisis and are really blessed. Oak is probably the most common material for cabinets and a white or light color is the most popular refinishing solution. It usually opens the kitchen up to the rest of the house because there's often light color trim everywhere. It makes the kitchen look bigger and allows the eyes to wander into the rest of the space inside. It's a very popular effect. They were so nice! I did the doors and drawers hanging up [Member Information Removed] the shop to get the best results. The fixed parts of the cabinets were done without spraying [Member Information Removed]-house. That's what most people elect to do especially with oak because it has grainy texture already."
"They were in a total kitchen remodel and asked me to hold the doors and drawers for several weeks after we got started which I did. They were primed and I put it on the back burner until they were ready for the reinstalling. They appreciated the flexibility. Many people make changes and additions to the project after starting and sometimes that throws the schedule off around their project. That's one reason why I ask for flexibility from everyone and because of the nature of the work, it's sometimes hard to predict EXACTLY where I will be and when. I do all the production, sales calls, office work, etc and that's all part of running a small business but not everyone understands that."
"I cannot respond to texts or answer calls in my shop, and I work in a lot of areas where coverage is spotty. I also cannot pick up calls right away because of the nature of the work with wet coating systems and I try not to text and drive. [Member Name Removed]often went out of town because of his job and several times he would contact me on Monday with the need to get service by Friday because he was going out of the country for a few weeks. I cannot usually respond that quickly. He needed a large door made for his pantry to match the existing one and so I asked if he wanted me to drop off the right hand door and have the cabinet maker to match it with a left hand replacement door for the one that was broken and thrown away because I literally drive right past the cabinet shop twice a day. He said yes and that I should call with the price information before making the order. When I called, he said go ahead and get the door made. With the benefit of my contractor's discount, the door was $900 and he saved about $400 over retail plus I finished the new door to match the existing at no additional cost. Unfortunately, the door was about 1/2" too wide because the two doors were different sizes and he initially insisted that I pay for a new door. I reminded him that the door was not part of our original agreement and that I was just dropping it off and picking up the new one as a courtesy for his convenience. The cabinet maker solved the problem by making a new upper door for above the new large lower door and so the width problem was solved. I only asked [Member Name Removed]to pay for the new door at cost with no charge for refinishing to match and so it cost him $275 for the mix up which I don't feel was my responsibility. The original large door was made in about 3 weeks and then finished and ready in about a month, but the mix up took a lot longer to straighten out. First we tried to see if parts of the too wide door could be reused to save money and nothing could be salvaged. Again, my legwork for free as a courtesy. Then the cost of making another was high and the cabinet shop suggested making a new upper door for the left side of the pantry and face mounting both it and the large lower so I had [Member Name Removed]measure and yes there was room to face mount the hinges. So the order was placed and three weeks went by, then four, then more and finally I stopped in and the order was misplaced so now the door entered production, then it laid in the finishing room because they needed to see if they could match the finish which was three separate stains on top of each other and finally it was done, holes drilled for the hinges and I was able to refinish it to match the new finish on the rest of the kitchen. I had a little trouble with the clear coat blushing on the replacement door because so much time had passed that the weather had changed and the humidity was higher than when the furnace was drying out the air in the shop. I'm about the only person alive who uses the new architectural coating system which complies with the new VOC law to save toxic exposure and protect the environment. It's acetone based and made out of soybeans and other organics like coconut oil. So, the blushing was a new problem to solve and the manufacturer's technical support sent me an aerosol can of blush retarder and one spritz solved the problem but it contributed to the delay and the negative interaction with the homeowner's schedule."
"This very large kitchen was transformed from a 70's pickled oak to bright white Sherwin Williams Industrial Epoxy with an eggshell sheen. It matches the white tiled backsplash and is complemented by the hand-painted designer earthenware knobs and fish handles which play on the lake theme of the home. We also refinished two bathroom vanities which made this a very big project."
"Thank you [Member Name Removed] It was a pleasure to serve in the Ft. Ben area. The very dark cabinets were hiding the black countertop now highly contrasted by the white cabinets. It pops along with the black appliances! The oil-rubbed bronze hardware was swapped for brushed nickel handles and I repaired two drawers to add even more value to a very nice kitchen."
"This kitchen had already been refaced with hardwood paneling veneer and new raised panel doors, but we wanted to change to a solid color and make the built-in in the dining room to match. It helped conceil the refacing and further update the home."
Jim transformed the entire room (cabinetry, walls, woodwork) from an old dark rustic 70's look to a completely modern up-to-date look. His suggested color combinations were especially pleasing. He left everything clean and tidy. I would highly recommend Jim and his expertise.
"The rustic A-frame sits on a private 10 acre lake in the woods of Brown County. It was a pleasure just to work in that setting. There's a lot more work to be done to the cabinets, vanities, etc. and I am happy she chose CabinetWorks Refinishing."
