"I was thrilled with the cleanup of the bath tub and regrouting. Prior to the cleaning the tub was full of slime and scum, and just utterly disgusting to be in. After the technician’s cleaning, it was like new and no longer slippery. The cleaning of the tile was also excellent, leaving our bathroom to look like new. I couldn’t recommend this company and the quality and professionalism more. It truly feels like a bathroom remodel the way that the results came out."

"Dave and his assistant (whose name escapes me) were fantastic. They arrived early and ready to work and not only did an incredible job completing the backsplash, but were really fun to have in the house. I know that sounds strange, like who actually enjoys having a contractor in their house? But these two were a riot. Dave joked around with my 2 year old daughter and shared stories of his own son, his adventures back in Australia, and odd jobs he'd had in the past, all the while keeping a good pace on the job at hand, which turned out beautifully. When he left, my kitchen was spotless and absolutely everything was returned to its place. And while I told Dave I thought the backsplash was absolutely flawless, he quickly pointed out every single imperceptible flaw in it - apparently his vision is better than mine because even as he was pointing to a tile that was a fraction of a millimeter higher than the one next to it, the only thing I was thinking is, "Man, you ARE a perfectionist" - not a bad quality to have in a contractor. When he called today (the day after the job) to make sure I was still in love with it, I signed him up for our next home improvement project. I can't say enough good things about him and particularly, as a woman, I want to point out that I felt very comfortable alone in the house with him while he worked. It seems like often times when contractors do work, I feel relegated to the furtherest room away from them. Not so with Dave. Total profesional."

"Excellent job! We are very pleased with the result. Our 21 year old garage floor was in extremely bad condition. Ray the owner not only quoted the job but was also on the job installing the floor himself. It is obvious that the quality of service and workmanship he delivers to his customers is important to Ray. The scheduling had to be modified because of the weather and Ray was in constant contact concerning this change so we were never in doubt when the work would resume and be completed.. At completion our floor was perfect with a result beyond our expectation. I would definitely recommend Razor Rock to my neighbors"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

No, you don’t need to remove the old grout before installing new tile over existing tile. In fact, the old grout helps fill in gaps between tiles, creating a more even surface for the new layer. However, it's important to ensure that the grout is clean, solid, and free of cracks or crumbling areas. Damaged grout should be repaired or replaced before proceeding. Cleaning the surface thoroughly and filling any low spots will help the new adhesive bond properly and ensure a smooth, stable installation.

On average, tiling a shower costs between $1,800 and $5,000, with most people paying around $2,700. The price of this project depends on multiple factors, including the kind of tile you choose, the size of your shower, and labor rates in your area. If you decide to tile your own shower (instead of hiring a professional), it’ll likely cost $800 to $1,400.

Bathrooms are naturally moisture-rich environments, so choose a durable, water-resistant tile for your tub surround. Porcelain and ceramic are two popular options that are also quite affordable. Glass is another good option that’s also low-maintenance—you just need a glass cleaner like you would use on the bathroom mirror. Natural stone tile is porous, but it’s still a viable option if you choose it in a glazed version.

To ensure an even and unbending surface to lay tiles on, you’ll typically need to put a subfloor under a tile floor. Fiber cement backboards are the most common choice, but using plywood is also possible. Don’t neglect this step, or you could risk water damage and grout or tiles prematurely cracking or crumbling, especially in an area with high foot traffic.

Generally speaking, it is better to cut tile wet when using a fast-moving wet saw to reduce dust and chipping. However, tile can be cut dry when using just about any cutting tool. Dry cutting will result in a bigger mess and may increase the risk of chipping or cracking, but if you’re just making small cuts, dry cutting is a safe and viable option. Cutting dry also means you can apply tile grout sooner, so it’s better for rushed projects.
