"Iâ m a new homeowner in Algonquin, IL. John was excellent in installing my Channel Master Antenna! He completed the job exactly like he described, very knowledgeable, professional, prompt and was very helpful in in answering all my questions and concerns. Iâ m having him come back for another project with wiring my doorbell and outdoor lighting. Definitely a pro at his trade! Thanks John! -Jaime Family"

"I can't recommend these guys enough. During a time when it felt like it was impossible to find good help, Overall Builders came through. They got a great carpenter out who framed up a new interior doorway in a hall and installed the jamb and door. I've used them in the past and will do so again."

"Nelson Electric is the best electrical contractor I’ve used in my thirty-eight years of owning and updating my homes. It is difficult to find an excellent contractor who is willing to take on a major remodeling project in old construction, and who handles it efficiently, cost-effectively, and with perfection. This time we were remodeling a 110 year-old bathroom. When we got down to the studs, joists, and rafters, the plans were worthless because of all the surprises. Unphased, the crew was able to trace every hidden wire to destination and source, re-route them as needed, install a new, larger, circuit breaker box, pull wire through neatly, clearly identify and label everything, and finish beautifully the lighting, overhead heating, floor heating, and exhaust fixtures, making for a beautiful bath. Thank you, Scott!"

"Blazer installed many wifi enabled light switches. Work was done quickly and professionally and have not had any post-installation issues since the install."

"I hired Nevskiy Inc. for one job. Before the serviceman arrived, my wife reminded me of more. He did all of them in one afternoon: two interior light fixtures, an exterior hanging light, a doorbell & two doorbell switches. He was courteous and respectful. The work was great. The price was fantastic. Nevskiy Inc. will handle all my future electrical needs. At this moment, I no reason to go elsewhere."

FAQs for doorbell installation projects in Wheeling, IL

The average cost to hire a handyman ranges from about $40 to $140 per hour. Average project cost ranges between $180 and $700, but the cost per hour and per project depends heavily on the type, size, and complexity of the project. The pro’s experience level and your location also factor into how much a handyman charges per hour or per project. You can also expect to pay higher rates or additional fees for emergency services, or around periods of high customer demand, like holidays.

It’s important to ask an electrician a few questions before you commit to hiring them so you can make an informed decision as a consumer. If you’re getting estimates or considering hiring an electrician, ask them these questions:

  • Are you a full-time electrician?

  • Are you bonded, licensed, and insured?

  • What level of experience do you have as an electrician?

  • Can you please share three references?

  • Do you do residential or commercial electrical work?

  • What kinds of electrical work are you most familiar with?

  • Will any subcontractors be performing the work?

  • Are permits and inspections required?

  • Who is responsible for obtaining permits and inspections?

  • What is your schedule?

  • Do you offer a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • Will you sign a do-not-exceed clause to keep the job within the budget?

Yes, you should get a quote or an estimate from an electrician. Most electricians offer free estimates or quotes. When getting quotes, do your research and verify each electrician’s license. Get quotes from three different electricians to compare. If the prices or items listed appear different on the quotes, ask the electrician to clarify. Learning as much as you can about the electrical work you want done will help you get the most accurate estimate.

Qualified, licensed electricians will charge from $50 to $100 per hour. The cost to hire an electrician for emergency visits may range from $100 to $200 per hour because this urgent service usually takes place during off hours and may require an electrician to leave or reschedule jobs they’re currently working on. Scheduling work on holidays or during periods of high customer demand, like after a major storm, will also lead to higher rates or extra fees.

Yes, you should hire a handyman who’s licensed, certified, and insured, if possible. States have different requirements for handyman licensing, registration, and certifications. If licensing is required in your area, you may pay more for a licensed handyman with experience than one who is not licensed or certified, but you’re likely to get a better end result for your project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local handymen guidelines.
